serious question......
« on: October 09, 2009, 06:02:46 AM »
What i would like to know is about drilling bowling balls. There have been rumors in my city that the 3 other ball drillers all died because of chemicals and dust found when drilling a ball. I would like to know if there is any kind of link between drilling dust and cancer. Also if a really good ventilation system is highly necessary or jut as simple as wearing dust mask. I am basically the only driller in our city now and i'd really like opinions or facts or suggestions. Thanks.

Well balls are made of a plastic resin so YUP. Good ventilation and a good shopvac that runs when sanding thumbholes as well as drilling.

Daily build up from inhaling any dust or debris can't be good for you, regardless of the material.  I would make sure to have some sort of vaccum system that sucks the debris away as soon as it is made..

well i have a good shop vac that i run constantly when sanding and drilling but people tell me that the dust comes out of the vac as well and that i need some kind of ventilation system or they would call health and safety board. It is not my shop its the bowling alleys however i run the shop. Is the shop vac enough?

What state? What people are saying they would call health and safety board.. customers ??
The vac filter should keep the dust from coming back out into the air.. but the fumes from plug mix material and being released from the drilled material is another story.  Is it harmful?.. probably to some extent over time.. but so is almost everything..
