The reason they have this format is simply because the fan base of bowlers alone to watch the shows isn't enough. Many have stopped watching because of the lame excuses for bowling formats the PBA has tried in an attempt to get more viewers.
Many bowlers aren't bowling anymore, many that are could care less about watching it on television. So now they have to try and find some gimmick to grow the viewer base.
Getting anyone, not in bowling, on the telecast in hopes of other fans watching the show is a ratings increase more then likely. If T.O. or or anyone makes a tweet about watching them this coming Sunday on ESPN and anyone actually does, then they have increased their market. Yes most will only watch for a few minutes before changing the channel, but when your desperate what do you expect.
I hate watching the bakers format, hate bowling it, but it is the only way you will see half of these guys on television anymore. Also keep in mind that since the NATIONAL PBA TOUR isn't actually touring the United States, it is big clue how bad a condition the tour is in.
A tour that doesn't tour is not going anywhere.
