Equipment/Types of Lanes

do your layouts differ when it comes to drilling nuggets to use on synthetics, compared to bowling on wood/guardian? or do you just change the surfaces accordingly?

No never you move your feet on the approach, plus 7 arrows and 39 boards to create a line. Their is no real reason to change drill patterns or even balls.

Actually, I might disagree with Mainzer a bit here ... for my game and the houses I bowl at (1 wood, 1 synthetic), there are markedly different reactions that require different balls and drillings.

I have found that the synthetic house has more oil, and tends to carrydown more. For this reason, I have a stronger solid ball with an earlier roll for use there. The 2nd house (with wood lanes) makes me use the pearl reactive because the heads dry up fast and any carrydown is usually absorbed, creating much drier conditions. I have a drilling that promotes a longer skid before turning over on the dry. It is more susceptible to over/under reactions, but it doesn't burn up early and hit weak and flat like the solid does.

I guess it all depends on your house and your lane conditions vs. how they match up with your style. Best thing to do is look at the individual reactions from each house and go from there.

a key to remember is that synthetic usually plays longer for the fact that its a slicker surface as opposed to wood. change surface speed release etc first then drillings.

thanks for the replies.

i agree that synthetics play longer. the problem with our lanes in my area, are that nobody really has synthetics(guardian at a lot of places), so everything drilled is to get down lane. i travel to this one house every month for a sweeper and they have synthetics. everything i have seems to really push and if i put too much surface on it, it tends to either burn up, or won't get that read off the end of the pattern(due to dull surface). so i am thinking of doing a couple pin-down layouts to compliment my other stuff, hoping that it will help me read the lanes better. then if they change too drastically, i still have my other stuff to go to.

thanks again....
