Jam or splatter
« on: March 11, 2005, 01:55:29 AM »
I generally line my self up on my strike ball so that if I throw a good shot I’m dead flush in the hole, ten in the pit. If I’m not doing that then I’ll make some adjustments to try and get there.

The other night I kept throwing light wall shots. Several times the 5 pin was the last to fall others the 7 pin.

Strangely (for me)  I felt more comfortable doing that and as long as they would carry for strikes I didn’t move and let the lane open up and come to me.

With todays techonology... changes to the lane patterns happen quickly and most often unexplectedly. And typically those changes are that the ball will suddenly hook more.

It is often expressed today that bowlers should indeed not line up high flush because soon enough that will lead to shots through the nose and not a 4 pin which was prevalent in previous years. And for this reason I believe the normal pocket has moved slightly right about 1/2 board. Especially when you take this and the fact that the entry angles have indeed increased and the better percentage for stiking is also lighter.

Agree with PinChaser, if you plan on playing a line for a while, I make sure to pick on where I start coming in a bit light.  First off it forces accuracy (too fast means washout) and also the line will gradually shift to flush and then the trip 4.  I always find when I find a line in practice I am hitting flush in, by the fourth frame I leave a split somewhere.

D <~~~~ Used to be terrible wiffing 10 pins.  Now through much practice, can wiff any single pin spare at any time.
