RANT: Ball drillers who don't know basics
« on: April 14, 2004, 11:41:37 PM »
Seriously,  Ball Drillers-- how can you drill a ball for someone these days with out locating the patron's PAP?   You can't drill it and get an expected reaction with out it.   Just guessing doesn't get it in my opinion.

I was trying to help someone lay out a ball and I asked the ball driller what the patron's PAP was.   "I don't know", was the answer.   This guy has drilled multiple balls for the patron.   The patron has not ever been extatic with the results........HMMMM WONDER WHY???   ball drillers=guess   Pro's= know!!

We have one of those around here!!!! His first name is Joey, and his last name starts with a C. Not gonna say it though.

I went into the shop where I get my crap drilled. And he showed us a guy that had a ball drilled by him. And he put the ball on the table, and it started rolling. The dude drilled it with like 2 or 3 oz of sideweight. Goofiest thing i have ever seen.

Makes me happy I have a good driller, Andy Penny(Kirsten Penny's Dad). He has always got the span, pitch, measurements and whatever perfect. Bit expensive though, lol ($405 for an Ultimate Inferno)

CB

Don't forget that things are different here in the UK,a top end ball like the Inferno's, Storm's X-series, Dynothane's Thing's etc are all in the $350-$400 price range, the only way's to get new ball's are from a Pro-shop or off the net direct from the US'when we can find someone willing to ship to the UK but this involves high shipping costs, import tax and then we still have to pay to get it drilled, shipping cost is about $45 surface with a 4-6 week wait or surface which is about $100 and takes 7-10 days.

Sometimes the "patron" doesn't care.  Most of the time, the patron has little or no clue about their bowling.  Most of the time, the patron doesn't want to make the effort to find out anything about their bowling.  Most of the time, the patron wants to get a discount on a ball that's naturally supposed to be perfect.  You have to remember that the customer is always right.  If they can't provide you with the information, and don't want to provide you with the info upon request, they'll get what they get.  There's only so much we can do.

Most of the time my driller screws up. Most of the time he drills left lateral for right lateral and right lateral for left lateral, and forward for reverse and reverse for forward. He can drill two balls at one time that are supposed to be the same, and end up with over i/16+ difference in the span. He too never checks the PAP. He also drills balls and never weighs them. And when the span is off, say i/16 or 3/32, he will hold his steel ruler in such a position that it appears to be the same as the other ball exact and argue it is right. Ditto for the pitches. When confronted about the pitches being off he will hold the pitch guage in such a position that it reads correct, when it isn't correct. And when he drills a ball, he simply gets out that Manufacturer's drilling sheet and tries his best to copy the picture exact with out ever checking the PAP. Says the PAP isn't important......And I can name more things, but I've already said enough......

Oh, one more thing and that is when he drills my balls, I stand behind him and look over his shoulder guiding every move. I've simply had too many balls drilled by him that has the span off 1/16, 1/8 and left handed pitches for a left handed bowler when it is me a righty that he is supposed to be drilling for.......OK now, tell me to go to another driller. FYI there isn't another that is any around here that is any better than him. They are all Driller Wannabees and not real drillers........So you guys think you have problems with your driller??? Try mine and you will then appreciate yours.

My local driller doesnt drill by pap But, I recently had a ball drilled by hskrntx, a member here on BR. I had bought a savage flip from him. And I'd have to say it is my favorite ball. The reaction is a lot better than all my other balls. I think drilling by the PAP has a lot to do with it! Excluding the fact that Ebonite is the best!! ha ha. But, I plan on finding a driller closer who drills by PAP. Thank you for your time.

Good luck and good bowling,
Kyle
