Ever Had Just One of Those Nights?
« on: February 20, 2012, 10:34:26 PM »
I’ve started back bowling after a two year layoff due to a wrist injury. Needless to say it has been slow getting back to where I was just a few years ago. I’m averaging right at 200 in my league but I also sub on another league that I use to bowl on. My average there was inflated at 213.

So Saturday I bought the Motvi Thrash (60 x 4 ½ x 30) and was eager to sub on Sunday. So during practice I just didn’t have a good feel on anything I threw. The lights came on and I bowled the worst game of my bowling career. I was so embarrassed. I threw a 119 game and that was after I went back to my old gear in the third frame!!!

Second game was better but I had to throw 4 in a row to shoot 176. Third game was the best. I opened in the 10thfor a 221. A 516 series on a team that thought I was going to help them. I never really knew what the issue was. I just had a feeling all day Saturday and Sunday that I wasn’t going to perform well and it came true. I sure hope this was a one time deal.

I can feel with you, had this a couple of weeks agon in league. Started with the team 1st game, and whatever I did it never felt right - I scrapped a 124 together, totally miserable. No feeling for the ball or the lane - I would not say clueless, but I was so happy that we had an extra player so that I could get away on the bench... :(

I still cannot find a proper explanation!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have had that happen before. Honestly, it's typically the feeling that I get right before I'm going to get in a rut of some kind. If I get that feeling I'll usually make it a point to get to the lanes early to try and do some skills work instead of succumbing to the feeling and bowling poorly. Sometimes it works, Sometimes it doesn't, but it's better than giving in.

Don't beat yourself up too much, it happens.  Have to take the good with the bad.

Last 6 weeks I was averaging 232 (FIGJAM!!!!) before I shot a 550 series this past week (182, 189, 179)...

It definitely was "one of those nights" for me.  And like everyone else said, it happens.  Shake it off and come back strong!!!

I did it last week.  Opened with a 148, 197, 207.  I avg. 230 at the house I was bowling.  The worst part is I opened the 10th in the second game with a split and we lost by 5!  The week before I shot 736 and came back on Sunday with a 757.  Sometimes it just isn't there and you have to just push through and make the best of it.  Better times are sure to come!

Balls in the bag and order they come out:
#1/2 Nano and Anarchy #3/4- Virtual Energy/Polished VG   #5-Big Hit (spare and really dry)  #6- Gravity Shift
#7- Teal Rhino Pro (oldie but a goodie)

I always thought I was the only one who had this happen. Recently, I was on a pretty good hot streak for me, but I walked in to the lanes three weeks ago and the ball didn't feel right, I couldn't quite get the lanes figured out and the hot streak was over. the next two weeks I shot 594 and 583 but I still didn't like the way any ball felt and I started missing the 7-pin (I'm a lefty) something I rarely do and my shots start coming in high or crossing over no matter what I do. The weird part was I was carrying those shots and not when I got to the pocket. I have this happen once or twice every year and it last for 3-5 weeks then magically it all goes back to normal.

If you have been bowling for any length of time this is going to happen, and when it happens you just want to hide in the corner and have a drink. so if you do drink have a couple and forget about it. there will be redemption!

I waited till I got home and had two beers before bed. I know this happens, heck I've seen others go through, but it sure isn't pleasant when it's happening to you. Guess bowlers like golfers must have a short memory. So come on Thursday night!!!  BUT, just in case I'll have "one for the road".

We all go through it, sometimes it last longer than others.

Take me I shot three 680's in a row followed by four 500's in a row(one was a 530 something), and now three 700's in a row.

Cant explain it, it just happens. You have to have a short memory.

OP, I know how you feel bro.

I was leading the qualifying squad of a local ABT event after first 2 games of 3 set.  259, 235 to start, and I was out front of 2nd +65.  I throw 8 splits in the 3rd game and come out with a 104.  Didn't matter what ball I threw, where it went, it was a split.  3 pocket blower 7-10's, 2 8 10's, you name it.  I missed the cut by 3 pins, lol.

Its bowling....just gotta roll with it.

Started Thurs league, first 10 weeks nothing under 680, high was 784...starting week 12 i couldn't break 600 for 8-9 weeks.  I was missing cuts in tournaments by 10-15 pins over and over again....hit rock bottom when I was asked to sub at a house I had not bowled at in a year....shot 499...my lowest sanctioned set since juniors :)

I shrugged it off as best I could, on the upswing now...went back to that house three weeks later and shot 640, now have 4 700s in my last 6 sets....couldn't be happier with the results of my labor over the past few months.  I'll ride the momentum wave as long as it runs, then it will happen all over again...like i said, just bowling....and I love it!
