Ouch...........I was BURNED!
« on: September 11, 2004, 03:56:57 AM »
Today, our first week of league.....I am expecting to average 170s-180s.......Well, first game I shoot 168 or something.  I'm thinking, alright, I'm gonna do good today!  Not necessarily.  Second game, my line completely changes.  Just time for a simple ball change right?  Nope, all I have is a diesel particle, and my power groove.  Heavy and light.  Yay.  I couldn't change yet.  So I struggle through the game, capping it off with a pocket 7-10, for a whopping........this is hard to say...........104...  Next game, it takes about until the 5th frame for the outside to dry up so I can switch to the PG, and "salvage" what was left with a 148.  Harsh.  But, I'm getting my bruiser, so I'll have something to switch to or from now, so I'll be back up in no time.

Doesn't give me good hopes for my sport shot JBT tommorrow though.

Anyone else's first day this rough?

First week in my Tuesday league: 589. Second week in my Tuesday league: 489. I was 4th high in the second week, I saw 180-190 bowlers shooting sub 450 series, yet the owner didn't do anything different than what he did the first week of bowling...

Let's see how my Monday night league goes in two days.

Andy: Put today out of your mind and focus on making quality shots tomorrow. Spare shooting is a must on a sport shot condition, don't expect much more than a few strikes and the occasional double and I think you will perform well.

I know that feeing of starting back.

However I was lucky enough to work with Ron C aka Magic Carpet earlier this year and he pointed out a few things.

I was able to recognize a few things that were happening on the lanes and just changed hand positions and I did okay.  589 considering I averaged 170 last year in this league and did not even shoot a 600 series.

Thanks Ron

ak57, I did just the same way on my first day of bowling which was today. Pins wouldn't fall down, impossible shot, lack of focus, annoying girls, yeah you get the idea. My scores yesterday were 140, 166, 138, now I look better saying I wish I could have done better but there was almost nothing I could do...

Andy -- You're putting WAY too much emphasis on ball changes and not enough on learning to make the line changes that will allow you to score with the same ball as the lanes change.  Think line change first instead of ball change.  --  JohnP

John- that is exactly what I was thinking.   you were in too much of a hurry to change balls.  I don't believe that you couldn't have moved your feet, eyes, or hand position and shot better than 104.   You have to have an arsenal of adjustments to go with your bowling balls.

Well guys, when you only have two balls, one of which is burning up, and the other I don't have enough revs to make work, it presents a problem.  I throw it like 17 mph and with, according to BK, 30' of loft and no revs.

I think maybe it was just the lack of experience from having not bowled in what feels like forever........Though I am working on getting more revs, so that I'll be able to actually put side rotation on the ball (with my current style, it really only works if I play straight up...)

Well, I will take your advice and try just moving before I change this saturday.  Along with more revs.  BTW guys, what is a good rev rate for about 16-17 mph pin deck speed?  Like 350-75 or soemthing?  I want something to aim for.

PS-  Bob, the lanes didn't transition that fast, I just only had a burning up ball and one that I just couldn't get to turn.
