Ever heard of this?
« on: October 06, 2011, 06:43:59 AM »
I am the secretary of a big money league in my area, and had a league member ask me what we do about Loose Racks.  After the initial giggle and the improper thoughts in my head, I told him I had never heard of that, could he please explain it to me.  He told me that he slammed the pocket and everyone on his lanes agreed that it should have been a strike but he left the 7-9 split, and what is the policy on a loose rack.

Seemed to me that he wanted to get a retry or a mulligan.  Told him that if before he threw the ball if he saw a pin offset he could rerack it, but once it is thrown, it is thrown, and you take the result.  He didn't look very happy, but oh well, that's the way it is in a USBC league.  Imagine the 300 and 900 that would be thrown!

After telling the G.M of the bowling alley and he stopped laughing, he asked who it was, I pointed him out and he told me that he has a PBA card.  Not to say that having a PBA card makes you all knowing or something, but the type of question that was asked I would not expect from a bowler with a PBA card.

Anyone ever had a similar experience?

A Loose Rack ok. That ranks right up there with the guy who complained he was leaving too many ten pins because the gutters were too deep. (the pins wouldn't bounce out of the gutter enough and knock over the ten.)

That is CLASSIC!  Bad carry and he wants to take it again..

From my experience, a 7-9 for a right hander can ONLY be left from a really good ball!  usually high flush!

as you said, if all 10 pins are there and you throw the ball, the result stands!

WOW never in my life have i heard that one. I have heard people say that it is off spot and blame the whole night on the bowling mechanic.

To me we throw it and if it doesnt strike i did something wrong.

Any clown can get a PBA card these days, so don't hold that agains't the PBA or assume the guy knows anything about bowling since he is a card holder.   The only time I take re-racks are in PBA play.  If it's league and the rack looks funny, just bowl.  You might be able to get away with 1 re-rack, but you can't sit there all night and re-rack during leagues.  It's silly and you look like a D-Bag doing it.    Sometimes you can look at a rack and just make an adjustment on where you are standing and give it you best shot.

I had one the other night on a string.  In league I don't really pay much attention to the racks, unless it catches my eye.  I saw that the rack was strange but I'm not going to re-rack.  Ball hit the pins very strange and left a 10 pin.  The people on my team where like did you see that rack?  Why didn't you re-rack?   Maybe I should of, since it's league and you better strike often.

I don't hold it against the PBA since anyone with a 200 average can have a card if they pay, I put that because usually if you are at that calliber, you wouldn't ask something like that.

My inial response was to motorboat them, that's what i would do!  This was so priceless Loose Rack is now my team name on that league, and I'm kinda hoping he notices, the reaction could be funny.

Got to love em... I want to see his reaction on the team name, IF he figures it out. That is why I haven't shot a 300 lately. Its those darn loose racks.

If he says that again, just tell him the only way to remedy the "loose rack" is to have surgery, that way every thing is tightened up. LOL. That IS the funniest thing I have ever heard. About as stupid as the answer I just gave. Great bowling to all. AND BOWLING IS A SPORT>.

I don't think he noticed it yet, cuz it was late getting on the standing sheet as it was printed after they updated the name, so it should be on there this week.

Going along with this, I went to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg and won a giant bowling pin playing the games.  It is the Loose Rack award which goes to the bowler on the team with the most pins under the average for the night.  We are going to pass it around from week to week.  Thought it was pretty funny!

I've been working our local house for 10 years now.... EVERY DAY, people try to tell me it's not their fault that they didn't carry the strike. No! Bowler error! In one way, shape, or form.... Be it ball speed, targeting, delivery, whatever! How bowlers can be so unrealistic is beyond me. I mean.... we KNOW carry amounts to a precise entry angle and ball motion through the pin deck. Right? I'm no ThrowBot so i don't deliver the ball the exact same way every time.... and even if i WAS a ThrowBot, i'd eventually stop carrying all ten because oil movement would change the ball reaction. Lol! Now.... offset racks DO happen so I would certainly point out, to the man in question, that it is his responsibility to look at the rack and decide whether a re-rack is in order and being that he chose not to do either, then his frame stands. Also, 7-9?! Hahaha! I'm kind of a smart*** so i'd find a polite yet condescending way to give him a bowling lesson. Lol!
