Everything hooks too much
« on: October 10, 2009, 03:25:39 AM »
All of my equipment I have hooks too much and its really frustrating.  I bought  an ebonite tornado last year figuring that would solve my problem and it has to a point but it still hooking way too much for my liking.  I usually stand around 25-30 but after a couple frames I am standing out in the nose bleeds.  I have pretty good ball speed and a good amount of revs.  My PAP is 4 3/8 and 0 up.  By looking at the drilling on it the pin is to the right of ring with the cg in the middle.  I am thinking of getting another ball but I don't know what to get since I thought the tornado was a pretty weak ball and have no idea what type of drill to put on it.  Any help would be great.

Thanks.

Move from the desert where you now bowl, and go to Milwaukee...

Problem solved.....

Drill pins on your PAP or near it.  OR drill pins 6+ inches away.

Get drillings which will make bowling balls flare less.

Try plastic and urethane, and dig up some older resin balls.  New stuff won't help if you need less hook.

instead of looking at the drilling pattern on the ball why don''t you look at the SURFACE of the ball itself. what is the surface on this ball ? when was the last time it was polished ?

i would have the ball resurfaced as coarse as necessary to remove any nicks, scrapes, and the worn out area in the track of the ball. then have the ball sanded finer....500, 1,000, 2,000, and 4,000 abralon. have several coats of rubbing & finishing compound applied. then have several coats of polish applied. if all this doesn''t help you may need to make a change in your game.......ball speed, axis rotation, etc.

Greg,  I have no changed the surface of the ball its in the box finish.  However I have thought bout knocking some of the shine off of it to control the break point..

You need to look at low Diff equipment. Balls like the Ebonite Red/Black Bash and the Brunswick Avalanche solid or pearl come to mind.

Ahhhhhh it's not that the ball is hooking early in heads or midlane it's more about the backend being fresh and you can't control the backend?

What board do you slide on, trajectory at arrows and break point?  Ball speed, revs, tilt and axis rotation?

I dont think its fresh honestly I bowl right after a doubles league.  If I move right its checking up early and crossing over.  If I move left it will still come high.
