How to lower track ?
« on: June 21, 2010, 06:52:28 AM »
What could you change in your grip to lower your track, I track really high 5 1/2 over 1/2 up. Want to lower it for a few reasons. What could i change in my pitches to do so ? and or span

I agree and the way I think about is this...

what are the two most extreme releases? full roller and spinner.

one comes straight thru the ball and the other completely spins the ball around the side. so therefore if you want a lower track you need to spin the ball more, raise it and come thru the ball more (less turn).

sounds a lot easier then it really is but to me that makes sense.

I wanted to come around the ball more and lower my track also, what I did was go from reverse pitch (5/16) to zero, of course I had to change my finger pitches to accommodate the thumb. While I do not disagree with the first reply totally, a change in pitches can help aid you in coming around the ball. People will ask why so for one, it helps to keep from squeezing the ball and a relaxed hand is a happy hand. Also, my thumb stays in the ball just little longer allowing me stay in the ball and able to get around it. Now I am not saying this is the cure all but it worked for me and sometimes it is worth the try. I am believe too many people have reverse for no reason at all. Like I read somewhere before, unless you have the span of Kareem Abdul Jabbar you probably do not need reverse. I also lengthened my span with these changes.

Now I do not know your pitches but sometimes change is good

Everyone has there own theory, but that is all it is theory. What most people do not realize is the grip charts that people use are only supposed to be used to get a base grip. Once you establish your base grip you must fine tune it from there. Too many people get a ball drilled walk away never thinking that there could be something better

I changed from 4 1/4 cut to cut with the thumb on the centerline to 4 1/4 -  4 3/8 with a 1/8 offset thumb left of the centerline, changed my pap from 4 13/16 and 1/4 up to 4 1/2 and 0 up. Not a huge change, but it changed nonetheless

I have a high track (5" over, 7/8" up) and occasionally change my release to lower my track to create more spin/length. What I do is simply cock my wrist inwards, so that lower arm and thumb create a straight line and the fingers of the bare hand point about 45° "inwards". This makes me come around the ball considerably, and adds side roll - even though the breakpoint tends to become more jerky and violent. But for me, it works quite well, even though it is just a fall back option in my game because I sacrifice control for length.
