Excited About Your New Stuff?

League starts tonight (for me)...

Looking forward to throwing my new Pursuit-S and Storm Fire Road.

What new gear have you purchased for this season and how anxious are you to throw it?

I am only going to bowl tournaments this year (New job, can't commit to a league just yet), and haven't ordered my new stuff, but looking forward to putting holes in, from most excited to not as excited.

1. Freight Train
2. The Look
3. Cobra SE
4. Green Mamba
5. Sure Thing

Freight Train looks to be AWESOME. Might be able to use the Look a little more, though lol.

I'm actually more excited about putting holes in stuff I haven't drilled yet...

I have an RSP by Roto Grip that I'm most looking forward to drilling up

Then the Awesome Flip I purchased way back when Bowlin ball dot com had a sale on em

I also have a Special Agent & a Columbia Reactive Ricochet that the spans are old & layouts weren't exactly what I want on those balls.

LOL!! Lanes are oiled (or lack of) for the fast and low rev players. I am okay with it. Just got to have that low volume arsenal now. My goal is to shoot a 700 series with my XXXL this year.

  You never did tell us what you think of your new Pursuit-S. The only recent ball I have is my Pursuit, and after practicing on this years league shot yesterday, I don't forsee that ball getting much use.

Not so excited by new bowling balls, but more so about joining a league that intends on using the Kegel Beaten Path oil pattern as its league oil pattern. I'll finally be able to use a ball with a matte finish and intended to handle some oil.

I got a 900G Train, took the surface to 4000 grit (the 1500 stock surface is far too rough for my ball speed and the oil I had been seeing) and it seems like it will work without having to stand on the approach of the lane to the left of where I'm bowling.
In practice today I stood anywhere from 25 - 30 and got a good reaction with some changes in speed and release.

Considering on about 95% of all leagues I've been in I've had to use polished equipment due to the lack of oil, this is a pleasant surprise. We'll see what happens when the league finally gets in gear.

Kegel's Beaten Path has less oil in the middle than your THBlock, but a little more oil outside. The length is 41', which is similar to most typical house blocks today.

Most of the time when I hear bowlers say they want more oil, what they are really saying is they want more oil in the middle (hold area).

   That's pretty much what I've noted about my Pursuit.I'm going to leave mine at box surface, and if I only get to use it once in a blue moon,so be it.I think my Cyclones will be seeing a lot more action this year, and I may invest in a strong pearl like an Innovate.

From what I have seen of the samples they have put down so far, is a much higher amount of oil across the lane than we saw all last year. I have never used a ball as strong as the Train dull on any oil pattern they put down in this center. A 2000 grit polished Big Curve and a stock surface Exodus solid are the strongest balls I have ever used here. I've tried a polished LM New Standard several times and a polished Theory. If I could use either of those for one game, it was a minor miracle.

So far, while the outside is still drier than the inside on the Beaten Path, there's much more oil out there than there used to be. I threw the Train outside of 5 several times to test it and it never overreacted and only once did it hook so much as to go Jersey.

It remains to be seen just how consistent this house will be in laying out the pattern. Their main trait with oil application has been inconsistency. The manager is a pool player, not a bowler (AMF house).

I wouldn't doubt what you see. My Train is very smooth, and OOB, it was too early even on some of the Kegel patterns. I took it to 4000 with Factory Finish, and it never once jumped on me. Ever. I have a second one that I am actually going to drill to flip harder and flare more, because my flare is very tight on the first one. I used it on a beat up Winding Road pattern a couple of weeks ago, and it was super smooth.

Just picked up two new Motiv pieces. A 2Cruel for heavy, and an Ascent Pearl for lighter conditions.
 
I used the 2Cruel for the first time on a higher volume 45' Route 66 pattern. This Kegel Challenge pattern plays tight by it's nature (especially when fresh), but I was able to create more recovery area than most, which gave me at least a little room for error. I'm going to love this piece for longer tournament shots.
 
The Ascent Pearl was more of an after thought, but I like the solid so much I thought I'd get the Pearl. Especially given the entry level price. What a fun ball to throw on a THS. You can stay outside most of the day. It revs nice, it's smooth, and the hit is what you'd expect from a higher end premium piece.
 
Motiv puts out a nice line of equipment. It complements my Lane#1 stuff well.

Funny/Ironically, my friend asked me, after I sent him the above report of my Train, if I was going to buy a Freight Train. I'll tell you what I told him, given its price and the fact that I still have an original solid Theory and a Lane Masters New Standard, I cannot see myself buying another oiler. I have never seen enough oil to use these 2 other oilers I still own, in any league, even polished. So I'll dig them out and see what surface might work on this new oil I'm seeing. I only pray that the oil will last.

I'd like to take this opportunity to profusely thank Duke Harding for this Train that he won on the June giveaway here on Ballreviews. He cannot bowl right now, the reason he had Ballreviews give me the ball; I only hope that he will soon overcome whatever is preventing him from participating in this sport.
