What would be the ideal pin lenght to use on your bowling ball if you wanted midlane and a strong continuos backend or just a hard arc for a stroker.

I never drill anything shorter than 4 - 4 1/2.. And only that short if i want a ball to roll earlier for example in the midlane.. Other than that i change the surface of the ball..

In my opinion.. Balls of today rarely need to be layed out at 3 3/8 because they're so strong now..

I'll second that. Check to get a pin-in ball with a pin distance of 1-2" and place the pin under the fingers and MB/CG between 45-90° from PAP. Plain and simply, should be anything you need/ask for. Fine tuning can be done through surface prep.

I assume "LENGTH" means the pin-to-CG length, not the pin-to-PAP length.

It still depends on the type of reaction the bowler is looking for.  For the midlane and hard arc reaction, I'd say 1-2" pins, 3" at the most.  That will let you put the pin below the fingerline without pushing the CG too close to the thumb.  A 2" pin will give you enough movement to swing the CG out and allowing a weight hole if needed.  A 1" pin or shorter might be harder to move the CG enough to necessitate a weight hole (not always, depends on the pin location).
