Finally got some vids...advice appreciated
« on: February 27, 2005, 04:03:00 AM »
Well I thought I would get some vids today as the lanes were actually oiled for once, so I could throw my normal, slower shot. Lane 1 was a lot drier than Lane 2 so I threw my Urethane ball because everything else was burning up. Lane 2 was oily with enough carrydown to make my reactive balls skid too far so I had to use my Track Mojo.

Vid 1: Side angle of me throwing the Polished Mojo, tripping out the 7 extremely late. Gotta' love them long ball returns!

Vid 2: Me throwing my matte finish Blue Urethane Groove stuffed high flush, playing 3rd arrow out to about 8-9 board.

What I already know:
-I know I drift, but I checked and I am consistent with it.
-My swing is muscled a bit, but I have been working to free it up more.
-I don't have too much knee bend, but that is because it aggravates an old injury to get nice and low to the approach, and the natural bit of loft that results helps my balls to clear the dried heads a little easier

I don't know what is up with my hand turning to the inside during the backswing and I can't feel myself do it while I bowl. Is it a bad thing? Does it really matter as long as I'm consistent with it? As I see it I don't really need to keep my hand under the ball more to get more revs because I already have too many revs for the conditions I normally see anyway.

What does everybody think? Your advice is appreciated.

BTW, the vids are in AVI format so make sure you have the right codecs installed to view them (I use Windows Media Player to watch them).

Nonamekevin: It feels like my thumb is pointed up throughout my whole swing already which is what frustrates me a little bit because I know I am actually turning my hand in. I can stay behind the ball better but I really have to force it and when I do it feels like my thumb is pointing away from my body when actually it is pointing up. I just find it weird that I can't feel myself do it....muscle memory I guess?

You have an awful lot of side turn, and not bad but sometimes i find on sport shots and tougher conditions gives you an inconsistent read, and ain't that great for hevay shots either, but for normal shots gotta love a lot of side turn.

No worries there, I never see sport shots or heavy oil in my neck of the woods. I can change my axis rotation anyways so I am not worried about it. I also have some of my equipment drilled a little weaker anyways so that it arcs instead of skid-snapping.

look at those ball returns!!
wow i never seen ball returns that come straight back like that

Those are definitely some WEIRD ball returns.  I've never seen anything like those until yesterday when I apparently went to that same bowling alley!!!  The lanes were pretty dry, and it sucks because it's hard to play a deep line there, lol!

Simply put, they suck LOL. As Icetink said it is almost impossible to play deeper than center arrow because of the returns. Someday I'm going to practice a 1 step or no step delivery so I can stand in front of those bad boys and play 5th arrow and deeper. But until I can perfect that they still suck LOL.

Cristofori: Thank you for the compliment as I didn't really think I had all that good of a form.

Oh yeah, TTT!

Anybody else have any opinions on this fine Monday morning?

Dont know if youve seen Tore Torgerson playing a deep line but he starts his walk from the right side of the lane and walks out to the left gutter. He then pivots into position.
It must be preety tough thing to do, but it maybe the only way you could play that deep a line with those returns.
If you ever get chance to see him do it, it may be worth watching.
