I was surfing around on ebay and found several 299, 300, 800 ABC rings for sale. What would make a guy sell their ring(s)? If I needed some cash, selling my rings wouldn't be an option. One of the rings had a $50 bid on it because the owner, the rightful owner, shot 867. If you needed money, would you sell your rings? Chime in.

Personally, I just take the plaques for the awards. Only rings I take are from tournaments. As far as selling them, YES, if I was in the same situation as this particular seller is.

While I canâ€™t imagine being that hard up for money again but if I needed it yes I would sell my rings.

My memory of the event is all that really matters. The rings are just inanimate objects. I donâ€™t ever wear any of mine anyway.

But mine are not gold so they aren't worth very much.

I think a bigger question is why would you buy these rings? People who can't shoot 800 but want to sport a ring to make other people think they have bowled it?

I was thinking about this just yesterday.
If you are the rightful owner of the score, you can always sell the ring when you are desperate, and replace the ring at a later date. The people who buy the rings are probably posers who don't have a prayer of actually shooting the scores, so they want the rings...

I have seen women's 300 rings go for as much as $250 on ebay. I wonder what my 800 ring would bring???

No - I wouldn't sell them unless it was sheer desperation. I have a lot of other stuff to liquidate first.

Good point O. I never thought about that. I can actually think of a few guys that would buy them too!

Perfect example:

My girlfriend has seen me where mine and wants it to wear.
I said no, because it's the only one that I have, and it way to big
for her.

I thought about suprising her one day and getting one from off of EBay.

If I needed the money I would sell mine.

Which brings up a question:

When I shot mine I opted for the cheap freebie. Eventhough it's been
a while sense I shoot it, can I get an upgrade to the gold ring?

There are thousands of them out there. My dad has given some of his to family members. He had 4 300's last year and an 800. Now they just send photocopy certificates. Not bad for 68 years old. The point is there are a lot more of them shot than in the past. I actually like my Dallas City ring and my TCBA ring. There are far less of them around. Still a game ring or series ring is nice to have and a great achievement.

You only get one ring for each award score bowled per year. The only time I see where buying on ebay is accepatbale is this. I shot 300 in the past and got the normal salidium ring. I then found a 14k gold Keepsake ring on ebay so I bought it for about 1/3rd of the price from Keepsake and had it re-engraved and that was great. I also bought an 800 elite 14k Keepsake ring off ebay for $125 bucks to commerate one of the 800's I shot 2 years ago and had it re-engraved as well. I saved a butt load of money doing that.

I see no problem buying the rings in this sitaution.. As far as people buying them to show off to their friends or family or whatever when they have never even shot an honor score is sad..

Eric,

I am under the impression that you can upgrade at any time. I think I read here where others have done so. Not having an honor score myself, I cant say from personal experience. Hopefully, someone else will respond.

If ever I could remember to find out my ring size I'd buy a gold 300 ring to replace the one of mine that currently resides in the Pacific ocean. Note to self - don't wear your rings in the ocean.
