F**king Smoke?
« on: May 23, 2004, 09:53:48 AM »
I Started My Summer League 2 Weeks Ago and Everyone That Bowls Except For My Team and 2 Other People All Under 18 Smoke. This Summer League I Bowl On is a Family Mixers (Youth and Adults) League. The House I Bowl in Does Not Have Great Ventilation, So When I Bowled In My Reg Youth League All The Parents Had To Smoke In The Bar.  When I Finished My Reg League I Had a Strong Avg Of 206, But Know Its a Joke, Im Barely Avg 185. The Smoke Get So Bad I Get Dissy While Bowling. Also You Should See The Ash Trays After There Done, its Piled High With Butts.  Its Come Down To Me, After Throwing a Shot I Walk Away and Go Stand By the OPEN DOOR!! Its Getting So Bad None Of My Team Mate Want To Show Up Because Of The Smoking. And Dont Even Ask Me About The 24/7 Country Music. Sad Thing is The is The Best League, The Other Ones Are Worse. So How Do You Guys Deal With it? Should I B**ch To The Manager? I Would Of B**ched Before But Because 90% of the People Bowl Smoke and They All Would B**ch Because They Cant Smoke. So What Should I Do???

Wow, you could still smoke in Wisc?  I thought Nevada was the only state allowing that...or rather where there's a casino bowl.  Some Indian Res.(Mohegan Sun) now too maybe...?

All the houses in Massachusetts have a ban on smoking indoors in bowling centers, so I never run into this problem.

The lanes here in AZ (Peoria and Mesa) do not allow smoking in them and
it is nice. I bowled state today and when I left I felt like I was a ash
tray. The smoke drove me nuts... I smoked for 15 years and I havent smoked
in about 2.5 years and the smell just makes me want to gag..

RotoGripFan, if you want to keep bowling, head to the dollar store and look for a battery-operated fan to blow the smoke away from around you when you're bowling.  I love mine; it's PINK

Smoking allowed 100% in Iowa.  If I were you though, I'd ask them to stop or find a new center to shoot at.  I had a problem once with a guy who was blowing it in everyones faces and we just asked him to step up onto the concourse to smoke and he did with no questions asked.

Is the family league YABA sanctioned? If so, get a copy of the 2003/2004 Family Rulebook and turn to page 96. In a box, with bold print, near the bottom of the page, you'll find ...

NOTE: The use of tobacco products in the area where YABA athletes are competing is prohibited.

This rule should apply to any family league that offers YABA awards for the youth participants. It's worth bringing it to someone's attention.

The smoking issue is always a tough one. You have your people who don't smoke me included who complain about the smoke. Then you will have the smokers who will say go stand somewhere else. The fight goes on and on. That I know of no center in South Dakota has a smoking policy of not being able to smoke. One of the newer centers in the state was thinking about going non smoking but did not do it that I know of. Almost everyone I bowl with smokes all I do is just go sit or stand somewhere else. Asking them to move and smoke somewhere else is always an option as well. Until a law is passed banning smoking indoors at all public place we just have to put up with it.

Since 90% of the league smokes, do you think the alley would care if his team quit? Nope, sorry for the problems but I cannot stop them from their life decisions. That is what they will tell you. Your allowed to smoke here. When YABA is going you have to go outside, when all YABA leagues are over, Smoke where you want to.

Maybe you could start a petition and see if there is enough interest to take to the state government and see if you can get smoking banned in public buildings banned, like it is becoming everywhere else.  Our local hospital has a health group that has been urging local restaurants to voluntarily go smoke free.  So far it is about 50-50, and from what I've heard, they are getting more business from families that will now go out and eat because they and their kids don't have to sit in a stench that someone else created.

Finally remembered a South Dakota state law that unless a place has a liquor license it is smoke free. Since bowling center's have the license smoking is allowed. So if you want to try to get your state to do something about it try to make sure that this loop hole is not in it. Good luck on this.

Roto, I know EXACTLY what your talking about. Smoking is still allowed in doors here in PA also. Even in open bowling its annoying. My whole family smokes so Im kind of used to it but its a pain to deal with it while doing the thing I love.

Yes they are, But if you are a junior bowling in a junior event I think
smoking and drinking is limited to the just the bar area.
