3 ball arsenal (yes, another one of those topics)
« on: February 25, 2005, 02:11:28 AM »
Instead of posting this under all the manufacturers' forums like others have done, I will post it here in one spot.  I am looking to "start over" with my equipment since everything I have now overlaps badly and I don't have balls that will cover all the shots/conditions I encounter in my travel league.  Also, since I used a couple different drillers, they don't fit exactly the same, and it is pretty annoying.

I am looking for a 3 ball arsenal, (company does not matter, however, I do want 3 balls from the same company), not including plastic, that will cover most everything.  I know I am not going to be able to cover everything with only 3 balls, but I think I can get pretty close.  Also, suggest drillings if you want.  I just want to get all new equipment and see what I can do with some good stuff.  PM me or post here.  Thanks!

Fire Quantum - Pin Right of Ring with X-Hole
Classic Zone - Pin Above Ring (CG Out)
XXXL - Label (I put this because I cant throw any other spare ball..)

Dull impulse zone
Monster bruiser
Slayr
Target zone

That should cover anything you'll see, except for an absolute flood.

your profile says you have some revs but slow speed so I would recommend you try Lanemaster. these balls seam to get down lane real well with pin up. I don't know what you prefer in terms of general balls shape. i.e. arc or flip.

if you want three balls and want them to cover everything you have to drill them and surface them according.

absolute power
pin above fingers 5" to pap. cg located for later flair. like in palm

Big Kahuna
pin under fingers 4.5 x cg out as far as need. no weight hole

Guaranteed
pin under ring 3-3/8. maybe stacked or around the 4 inch mark.

that would give you three balls for three very separate reactions across a variety of conditions. you can fill in gaps as needed later on. definitely no overlap with these balls.

Track: Rule GP2, Freak-A-Zoid (Xception if u got the $$$), then either Desert Heat once it's out or Hexplosion

Storm: Vertigo, Depth Charge, Hybrid

Brunswick: UI, Zone Classic, Power Groove

Hammer: Real Deal, Big blue pearl, Sling Blade

All of these 3 ball arsenals would match up rather nicely, I'm sure there are certain balls that fit in better maybe, but with proper surface adjustments you'll be able to hold your own. Sorry to give you 4 choices but I really don't see any company above any other. If I was you I'd probably go with Hammer or Brunswick. Although I use Track myself and it is quite nice.

Thanks a lot for the info guys.  I have e-mailed all of the companies to ask their opinions as well.  I talked with Tom Tomaras from Brunswick and he had some great advice.  I am still debating which company to go with, but I will post my decision when I make it.  Thanks again for all the help.
