faking an injury
« on: December 14, 2003, 10:43:47 AM »
Has anyone ever faked an injury 'cause they were bowling so bad? I was bowling a tournament yesterday with a 60' flat pattern and scored a 96. LOL! I started faking like my knee was hurting around the 8th frame. I was so embarrassed! Out of the 4 games my high game was 147. LOL! I left in a hurry after the tourney was done because everyone knows that I avg. 220 and were laughing that I bowled that poorly. I know other people must have faked an injury before please share your stories so I dont feel so bad.

hell if i have an injuys i play it off like it aint nuthin. If my coach sees me winch in pain hes like, oi u alright? and i just say, yea im fine dont worry about it, and go on bowling. Why not concentrate on your bowling instead of trying to make excuses.

good luck and high scoring

Thats really pathetic!!!

I bowled in a tournaments recently (Under 25's) and I had a really sore back, which I usually get from bowling to much but I didn't let it bother me and I never complained, but faking an injury is the low of lows, you should be ashamed of yourself...

THe man had a bad day, and found something to blame it on. What's the difference in blaming it on a fake injury, or doing what most of you do and blaming the ball or the lanes? Oh, I brought the wrong ball for the lanes, or man the oil patterns all all screwed up on these lanes, etc, etc. Granted, what he did was not the most honest, or upstanding thing to do, but if he hangs out here long enough, I'm sure he will learn the proper b.s. to blame a bad game on. A lot of you are really good teachers when it comes to placing blame on things other than yourself.

I know I am far from a good bowler, but at least I can admit it.

A 60' flat pattern??  The entire length of the lane is 60'.  That must've made for an interesting afternoon.

I wouldn't have faked an injury.  A 220 average on a house shot is WAY different that 220 on a pattern that long.  Just chalk it up to experience and maybe the next time you see a pattern like that you can try something completely new to score on it.

I am sorry faking an injury is terrible. I used to be the type that said i didn't have the right equipment and i realized that was just as pathetic. now if i bowl bad i just wasn't doing the right thing or i was to stupid to figure out the right thing.

exactly sheppy.

If you screw up just say darn, I had a bad day. Everyone has them, even the best. Look at Barnes yesterday. He couldn't find his spot, instead of shifting around and trying to adjust he just kept grabbing different balls. I hate to see a man that uses Big B trying to blame a ball because he had trouble controlling his shot.

Two weeks ago, I had one of the worst nights of bowling that I have ever had. I couldn't have found the pocket if I was using a two foot wide ball. When I was leaving the owner asked me how I did. I told him the lanes were screwed up and he needed to do something about them. Then I stopped, turned around, looked him straight in the eyes, and apologized. I told him his lanes were fine, that I just had an awful night and needed something to blame. We laughed it off, shook hands, and I came back the next day and tried to fix the flaws that screwed me up.

I can find plenty of things to blame poor bowling on - I don't need to fake it.

I will ALWAYS blame myself, though. If I think the lane condition is screwy, but others are scoring and I'm not, "I didn't match up well to the lanes".
If I was just throwing the ball badly, that's what I'll say.
If I can't figure it out, I'll say that "some days I win, some days the lane man wins. Today he won".

But I don't usually blame the lanes outright - unless everyone is as puzzled and struggling as much as I am...

I've never faked an injury, but I have taken the night off and let someone sub for me so I don't take the team down with my poor showing.

faking an injury does seem kind of a lame excuse.  everyone has a bad day now and then, but sheppy has the right idea.  if you are bowling bad, just admit that you probably aren't throwing the ball well or making the right adjustments.  a few weeks back i shot a 465.  at first i wanted to blame the fried lanes but when other people shoot 680s on the same pair i realized it wasn't just the lanes.  bad days happen, just gotta deal with it.

Regardless of the lane conditions, you are dealing with the same condition as everyone else...just make the best of it and try to figure out how to conquer the condition in case you ever see it again.  And besides...at least it wasn't down to the level of Withdraw McGraw's 088 at a SASBA event a few years back (similar situation in terms of conditions).

Just remember that some days you are the dog and other days you are the hydrant...that day you weren't the big dog

On edit...there are other events where conditions are nothing like what you might see on a THS...the Petersen comes to mind.  Average is out the window in a situation like that...'course most events like that are usually scratch, so you don't have a penalty for bowling lower than average- you just have to bowl better than most of the others there in order to get a check.

LAST TUESDAY NITE I BOWLED TERRIBLE. I DIDN'T FAKE A INJURY BUT CAUSE ONE UPON MYSELF BY KICKING THE BOWLING BAG WITH THE BALLS IN IT. IT WAS MY LEFT FOOT- BIG TOE THAT IS. IT IS BRUISE ON TOP. IT WAS MY FAULT ON MY PART AND I SHOULD TELL THE TEAM THAT THE WAY I ACT WAS WRONG. I TRY TO DO GOOD THAT I PUT PRESSURE UPON MYSELF TO DO SO. EVERYONE HAS BAD GAMES,EVEN MYSELF. SO IF I LET BAD GAME GO AND WORK ON NEXT ONE. WELL NO MORE KICKING BAGS.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement. It really uplifted my spirits! I've been faking my injury in that tournament for awhile now. Gotta bag my average down to win the big one! I'll cash next week so I can get my new average. The big one is in 3 weeks. Wish me luck!

well I remember one of our beloved BR people faked an injury to get out of a poor performance.  His name is Jeffrevs.

So I guess Jeffrevs is a pathetic loser too.
