Fall League Saga Journal (The Road To Victory)
« on: September 07, 2016, 09:39:20 AM »
Fall leagues began last night and for about a week I was contemplating on whether I joined the right league.  5 person teams with many people on the old side doesn't sit well for my sleep time.

So I came in as an undrafted free agent.  I sat in the corner after finding out the league sheet didn't add my name to a single team despite me sitting through an hour meeting last week where people whined about $0.15.  Originally I was supposed to be on the league president's team.  I guess there was no room.  Then another younger team wanted me on their team and even booted one of their existing players LOL!  The soon-to-be booted and soon-to-be ex-friend of 4 other bowlers was at the exit door and the team was happy to have me.  Then the third and final team.

Wound up missing 600 but it was mostly due to missing three 10 pin spares.  It was terrible spare shooting.

The good news is we won all our games by a huge margin and I'm not the best on my team.

I will be getting a ball spinner soon and put off on a new ball until later.  I want to see how some of my balls change when I adjust the surfaces of them.  The ball I'm most likely to get before the end of the year is the Storm Lock.  I like its specs and look and will most likely bowl with it polished since the lanes get dry pretty fast.  I was going to get urethane but the issue is that I can turn a reactive into a mild reactive ball with adjustments.  It's hard to turn a urethane into a strong reactive ball.

If you are going to polish the Lock, why not get the Snap Lock instead?  It comes with an OOB of 1500 grit polished.

Like the poster above said, a Snap Lock is likely more logical.  I have one for a medium THS and it's a fantastic ball reaction.

I was going to get urethane but the issue is that I can turn a reactive into a mild reactive ball with adjustments.

I always try and avoid turning apples into oranges unless it's a ball I really don't match up with, then I'll tinker with more extreme surface adjustments but a good rule to go by is drilling a ball for the conditions it's intended for.  Don't throw an original Lock on conditions it's counterpart is intended for.

Thanks for the input guys.  I will look into the Snap Lock.  I just noticed that PDW is all about the Lock now even though it came out last year.  Won him 6 titles this year alone.  I am kind of not happy with pearls though.  I haven't had good luck with them.  I have a Storm Recharge which I think it is a pearl and I rarely use it.  It goes way too long for my style.  Keep in mind, I have a fast strike ball but with lots of revs.  I'm not sure if my Gravity Shift is pearl but it seems like it is.  Also had an Ebonite Afterburner which I basically gave away and a Big Hit Pearl which I sold for $20 to a teammate lol.  I never even used the ball.

The Lock I'm sure is a great ball, but to be fair, how many of Pete's titles came on a THS that breaks down quickly?

Since you're getting a ball spinner you can always hit that Snap Lock with some surface (I hit mine with a 2000 pad and then a 4000 pad just to tame it down a touch) as the conditions you face dictate.....

Well I missed last week because I was out of town.  Before last night, we were in 2nd place in the entire league having lost just 1 game so far.  But now that I returned, we lost the first two last night.  I missed the most spares ever for a 3 game set in years at 9.  Zero splits.  All makeable single pin and double pin spares.  I pulled every ball left.  I don't know what happened.  I couldn't even make the ball roll end over end.  It was a disaster.

My 700 series ended up being 562 because every ball was either a strike or an open.

I need to get a ball spinner in October.  My Vertigo is taking a beating because by the 2nd and 3rd game it's basically wood on ball and I got a ton of rev rings on the ball now and it looks terrible.  My spare ball also sucks.

So mad.

I also lost every game in the card game bowlers play.  25 years of bowling and last night was the first time playing this game.  I ended up having the most cards each game but still lost.  Not sure what type of poker we are playing.  I played Hold-em for years and it seems like I should have won each game lol.
