The 10 pin

For some reason I've started having trouble making the 10 pin. I used to stand on about 35 and look at 20, however, this is not working well now and I'm missing too much.  I moved into 30 and used 15 as my target and my percentage went up some but now I'm back to missing about 1 out of every three.  I am using a plastic ball.  My misses are mostly left.  I've tried the old "miss left-move left" method but not having much success.  I've also tried practicing throwing only at the 10 pin but that's not helping much either. 

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you ending up in the same spot every time?  (sliding foot)

If you are starting to drift towards the 10 pin more, you will probably miss left.

When things like this are happening, it's often because you're forgetting to focus on the basics.
- Are you shoulders square to the foul line or to the line you're walking, towards your spare (or strike ball) target?
- Are your pivot shoulder and your hand aligned with the target so that the ball and your hand are flowing towards the target?
(If you're pushing the ball or allowing the ball to fall (depending on your initial ball/hand motion) is straight ahead, then the ball will go to the left of the 10 pin.)

What I've come to realize with people and 7/10 spares is many people over think it.

You're already throwing plastic, find a comfortable angle to play and just follow through your target.

If you're comfortable and feel like you follow through your target well and still miss quite a bit, that's when you should have someone look at your approach to see if you're drifting at all or dealing with shoulder rotation.

Try to keep it simple

When I miss a ten pin on the left, ninety percent of the time it is because I come up out of the shot a bit, usually because I am trying to throw too hard.  This almost always causes me to pull the shot.  It is also an easy habit to fall in to.  I will go a month and not miss a 10, then miss a couple in a three game set before I realize what I am doing.

In addition to the other good points, don't "release" your polyester ball.  Even these can move a board or two if you get around them at all.  Instead just open your hand at release and usually the ball will go dead straight.  No need to break your wrist back either.  Just open the hand...

IMO, if you want to shoot 90%+ on 10 pins, learn to roll the ball straight so it rolls over the finger holes.  That is how WRW does it and he has the highest spare conversion in history.  I used to try to follow the motto "just throw your strike ball but with a plastic ball".  Yeah, sure.. that works real great when the ball will hook 2-3 boards.  Boom! You just ruined your margin of error by like 20%.  I basically, put my thumb in loose and don't shove my fingers in the ball like I would on a strike ball.  Then I break my wrist and then forget about bowling.  Pretend like you are rolling a ball to a pin.  I also think it looks pretty OG when the ball rolls perfectly straight and nails the 10 pin.  I got a lot of compliments this past summer league on my spare shooting.

Thanks for the reply.  I think I may be trying to throw it like I do the strike ball so that may be my problem.

I dont recommend changing your release to extremes nor do I recommend trying to throw extremely hard.  On most conditions just flattening your wrist a bit with proper body alignment while staying in balance to the line will do the job.  I am over 90 percent with this method
