Elbow brace/support
« on: July 24, 2011, 05:55:15 AM »
I've been bowling way too much this summer and my elbow is starting to hurt with tendonitis.  I will be cutting back and resting it for the remainder of the summer but I wanted to see what others either use personally or know of others that use them, for preventing elbow pain.

I currently use the Robby's Bandit Forearm band Robby's Bandit

Any info is appreciated.  Thanks.

I went to the DR.'s and they told me I had golfers elbow....its the side that is closest to your body. I was using a BandIT too......actually was told and has worked better was 15min of stretches and ice ......worked 100% better than the Band IT . I  still use it when bowling, but it alone did not help nearly as much as the stretching and ice combo. Hope that helps....If you are interested in the stretches....let me know and ill explain.

Cortisone injections can be your friend when the doc hits the right spot.
The inflammation that is causing the pain is something that can be eased with anti-inflammatory drugs, and especially ice therapy a few times a day.  Currently I am trying to postpone an inevitable shoulder surgery until next summer, if possible. I get cortisone injected into my shoulder every couple of months, but I have also had it in the elbow with very good results. Each time I wish I had done it sooner.
I have occasionally used a elastic sleeve over the forearm and elbow just to keep it warm while bowling. They can be found at the sporting goods outlets.

Just another thought, you may want to have a coach look at something you are doing in your armswing which is causing this pain.  There may be something you are doing that is aggravating it even more that a trained eye may see and be able to correct so that there is less pain.

Good luck in getting that elbow taken care of!

My elbow was hurting really bad a couple weeks ago too.  I looked up some stretches and ice it at least once a day (sometimes two).  It's certainly not pain free yet, but it is much better!!!

I also have a good friend who is a chiropractor.  He's been doing some Active Release Therapy (ART) on it about once a week that's really helping also.

If you're looking to be well before the fall league, do the stretches, ice down daily, and get a chiropractor to work out those muscles w/ some fairly painful ART.

The chiropractor doesn't really know much about bowling but he did recommend that I get a Robby's Band It so if I were you I'd continue to wear it while you bowl.
