FedEx
« on: December 16, 2008, 04:14:39 AM »
I noticed through a quote by FedEx for shipping a bowling ball they prices are similar to DHL. I guess it is just UPS and USPS are more expensive. I was surprised to see that since I never hear of people shipping FedEx on here.

FEDEX and UPS are the two big shippers used by most people, as far as I know. UPS now has stores everywhere. You can't go anywher without tripping over one of them. FEDEX has no "stores". You have to find the local FEDEX shipping center. It could be 30 minutes away or an hour away, IF YOU CAN FIND IT.

Fedex is about $1-2 less than UPS. Even when double boxed, FEDEX has rpounded off every ball I sent and every ball I had delivered to me. The boxes are thrown a LOT, every time they are handled.

Some people use DHL and they are less epensive, but there are much fewer places to bring the ball than UPS or FEDEX. And I believe they are leaving the US - bankrupt. DHL is, I believed, owned by a Swiss company.

USPS is more expensive. There is no tracking number. The number is a delivery confirmation number. The box can be anywhere and lost. Insurance is extra. If the ball is lost, you're out unless you paid extra for insurance. There is also no guaranteed delivery time.

Actually, that's not true.  FedEx/Kinko's stores are the official FedEx shipping outlets, much like The UPS Store is for UPS.

I use fed ex exclusively and have an account with them. I print off my own labels at home and drop the packages off at Kinko's. They are located all over. Very easy process and better than those rip off packing and UPS stores.

I have used them for 3+ years and shipped 100 0r so packages and had just a couple of issues..

I don't like FedEx because they always leave crap at the door even if no one is there.  I have had sports tickets jammed under my door seal, boxes left outside for days, stuff rained and snowed on.  Every other delivery service finds a way to leave it at the front office, but somehow FedEx is too f***ing lazy.  One time I had 2 shirts I ordered outside during 2 rainstorms.  When I finally opened it up, the shirts looked like azz!  It makes me furious!

My local Kinko's is not very close at all. My FEDEX center is actually closer than the Kinko's store. Many more UPS stores are around my area, at least.

I have online accounts with both FEDEX and UPS. I print the labels at home and bring the box to either store or center. UPS is a lot more convenient for me, and there's no surcharge for dropping it off. UPS also treats the packages much better in general. Haven't used FEDEX in a while now. The price difference is minimal.

From what I am getting via checking prices. USPS vs UPS USPS standard flat rate package box for 15lbs will cost around $20 to ship and ups wil be $22

For us in the USA, the difference is they will not be available for us to use at all very soon now.

not that it matters, DHL is doing no more domestic shipping, as of Jan 30,2009 they will only be doing international shipping. sasch is correct, they are a German owned company. incorrct that they are bankrupt, they are still the largest international shipping company in the world, they made HUGE earnings internationally, bottom line, they suck in the u.s. the market has dropped sharpley and they are in the process of "restructuring" (that word gets thrown out there alot today). they tried using cheap independent contractors at minimum wage and you get what you pay for. crappy sevice! don't expect a champagne drink on a beer budget. there's a reason ups is good, they're all union and held responsible. DHL is going to try and strip the company down to the bare core and build it back up from the ground somewhere in the future. didn't mean to get long winded, i work for DHL in south bend, indiana  and i'm one of the guys losing my job on the 30th after 18+ years. we're union but not even close to ups in wages or bennies. i use ups, no problem.
