Feel
« on: July 19, 2003, 09:26:20 AM »
OK, there are hundreds of reasons bowlers can give for bowling bad. I have used several of them.
-Bad timing
-the ever popular---I left the wrong ball at home
-my game did not match up to the conditions

------blah blah blah

Anyways, there are days you go the lanes and everything just clicks. You focus better, you are hitting your target every time you release the ball, you are in perfect time to the foul line.

I have nights where when I get done bowling and I have bowled poorly, that the night just flew by. Where I cannot even remember the frame before (reaction, mark etc). I refer to these nights as just not having a good feel for the game.

I know what you are thinking. But when I am bowling well, I can "feel" the push away, and the swing so well.

I am sure I am not alone when I say "feel" is important. Feel for the lanes, how the ball "feels" in  your hand, how you "feel" in your approach.

The entire "feel" aspect is definately mental in my opinion. Some nights, for any given reason your focus may not be there, and before you know it, the 3rd game has just ended. Anyone else go through this?

Bones,

To a degree then I would have a few of the characteristics you mentioned.

I believe I am a feel player. But those lousy nights usually end up with me having bowled between 190-200 every game. I am usually very consistant. When I have the "feel" and am in the zone I am knocking on the door of an 800 set. When I don't, I am going to have the low 600-high 500.

Feel is very important. I think it mostly has 2 points where it goes bad for me when I just do not have the "Feel".

1-The pushaway. When I am not having good feel, I do not totally lock the elbow until the top of my backswing, and this makes my armswing unpredictable at times.

2-and this is probably the most prevalant of the 2, is my 3rd and 4th steps get fast (in a 5 step delivery). This usually makes my slide start much sooner therefore it is rushed a bit and this results in my missing my mark to the left on almost every shot.

I have identified these problems with my game---and "feel" now I just have to learn how to controll it.

Anyone else???
