Fees Increased
« on: August 21, 2003, 11:20:14 PM »
Had the Captain's meeting for league, last night.
The center hit us with both a $.50 lineage increase($7.65 to $8.15)(Fee raised from $15 to $16 per bowler/per night) and $.25 beer increase. ($2.75 to $3 a bottle)
Usually, it was one or the other.

Keep in mind that our league is the biggest in the house, 26 5-man teams.

The new owners are really making a good impression, hope they are going to update the house with all the extra money they make.

Anyone else get hit with increases like this ?

I would welcome those prices, in NYC we are paying lineage of
10.75 - 11.50 making league fees $22 p/wk.  As for beer we are
paying 3.25 for domestic and 3.75 for imported  beers.

Bowling prices seem reasonable, but the beer seems kind of high.

We stopped doing beer frames when $10 wasn't enough to cover it.

Both houses I bowl at, raised bowling lineage a little, I think we pay in the $8 range. The one just did a total overhaul, New seating, new paint, new carpet (new owner last year). The other one looks the same since 1970's.

Our fees went up as well...but only from $10 to $11.  Our center charges $8.25 for lineage.  You must have some serious prize money going on there with 26 teams @ 5 per team.  Does your center take care of the league or does your secretary do it?  If so, he must be making a killing!

The owner of the center I manage wants lineage raised this year as well. He wants to raise $0.15 per line. Believe it or not this only takes the average for all of the leagues to about $2.20 per line. The area we are in is pretty well down right now, but $2.20 a line is the lowest average by about $0.50 in the area.

He also raised beer prices from $1.50 to $1.75. He only sells it in cans.

I think the prices are very reasonable. Believe me when I tell you that people are still complaining about it though. Especially the lineage end of it since that hits every bowler whereas beer prices only affect the beer drinkers.

Centers have to raise money sometimes. I do think that $3 a beer is expensive. However that could have alot do to with the insurance company they have plus the liquor license renewal fees. Profit on almost everything a center sells is 100%. If they sell beer for $3, they are probably paying $1.50 or so for that beer.

Just curious .. many bowlers complain during the season about CONDITIONS .. NO OIL/TOO MUCH OIL .. MAINTENANCE .. Pinsetters breaking down with slow recovery .. POOR FACILITIES .. dirty bath rooms not a good selection at the SNACK BAR .. ISN'T CONTRACT TIME (WITH INCREASE IN FEES) A GOOD TIME TO DISCUSS THIS WITH MANAGEMENT? Having the LEAGUE step up to the plate MAY CAUSE CHANGES!! JUST A THOUGHT!

Our centers traditionally raise lineage $0.50 every winter, and they did it again this year.  The leagues have a choice of upping the fees or taking the cut in prize fund.  Most leagues chose to up fees an additional $1.  My Tueday league said no to increasing fees, so the prize fund will decrease  We pay $17/night.  Since I don't drink, I'm not sure of the price of beer.  I think it is about $3.

Joe, I had to laugh when I read your reply.  One of my teammates asked point blank if we were going to see what the increase was going for.  GM said so we can pay our bills.  I said maybe we'll actually get oil every night  Though I do like my center, but they decide to play with the shot.

our lineage went up about $.65 to $11.20 if I'm correct.
However, our league is the entire house (50 lanes/teams)
so the house decided to contribute $2000 to our prize fund
since we have the whole house.  That kind of makes up for
the lineage increase.  I thought that was pretty decent of
them considering its an AMF managed house.  haha

If we can't ask for things when we sign a contract .. when can we ask for them? What would happen if the LEAGUE said WE'RE NOT Going TO TAKE THIS ANY MORE!!! Then moved to another house.

Someone on this FORUM keeps talking about BOWLING DYING! Doesn't that mean that the CENTERS don't want to lose what they have and we have the ability to BARGAIN??

Is the STATEMENT of LOOSING BOWLERS NOT TRUE or ARE WE TOO STUPID TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR POSITION?

That's a 6.5% increase without adding the beer, wish my pay would increase like that!
We have to fight for 2%.

TWells1960 -
Secretary gets $25 per team, which is fair in my opinion.
Treasurer gets $20 a team, also fair.

Last year, the house made around $30,000 from our league and we had alittle over $30,000 for league prize money. (Rough estimate)

My team came in almost last place and we still walked away with $193 each.
First place is alittle over $200 each.

This league has been in this house along time, don't think anyone would think about moving.

Just another whiney bowler!

Thong, gosh amighty. At $17 per nite, I would have to quit bowling. That price is bad enough for working people, but is way out of line for retiree's like my self as our income is not great enough to support that kind of price.

I don't know many places where you can have some fun and win some money for $6-8 per hour. Just look around the  bowl all that stuff cost money and needs to be maintained. The employees get raises. Just think of all the costs involved in running a bowling center.so the money we spend for 3 hours of fun, really isn't so bad.

Let me think about this .. do you think this league (as defined by poster) has any leverage? Lets see:
Lineage $8.15/bowler x 5 (bowlers) x 26 (teams) x 36 (weeks in winter season=
I FIGURE $38,142 for GAMES BOWLED! The bar probable takes in a little also. Do you think this league could threaten to move and get some attention .. With the right negotiator .. PERHAPS!

Our lineage is going up as well this year from $7.65 to $8.00. In our owners defense it has not gone up in a couple years or longer and they had the new Laneshield synthetic overlay installed this summer. We did raise our league last year from $15 to $16, but it was all prize fund. There are rumors that since the lineage is going up that a motion to raise the league fees is going to be presented, again. Not sure how a third increase in a row to the fees will be taken. My guess is a lot will rather leave the fee and lose .35 in prize fund this year.
