Female pro shop operators?
« on: January 02, 2008, 12:21:53 PM »
My best friend just bought a new pro shop, and opened it up as his second store of his chain. Well, he needed a new pro shop operator since he now has two stores, and it was just him. He wanted me to do it, but there were many reasons why I didn't want to do it, so he had to look else where. Well it ended up that my girlfriend was actually interested in doing it, and my best friend was totally cool on her doing it as well. So he taught her everything in running his shop, from drilling to sales, and she has now been on her own for about a little more than a month now. She is doing a great job, and many of the customers were wary at first, since they were use to always having my friend do their stuff, and they are giving great compliments to her. My friend is also very happy with my girlfriend's work and so forth. Anyways, the main point of my thread, is that it dawned on me... That my girlfriend is the first time that I have ever seen a female work in a pro shop. I have never seen a female run or drill at a shop, and it got me thinking if any of you see many females with their own shops, or working in some?

I know Anne Marie Duggan, Ex-PWBA member, runs a pro shop in Kansas or Oklahoma with her husband, Pat Duggan. She drills balls (and knows what she's doing).

Cheryl Daniels has her own shop in the Metro Detroit area... as does Aleta Sill, though I'm not sure if Aleta does the drilling, or is more of a coach.

I've never seen a female pro shop op.  I think they'd be really good at it, as organized and detailed as most women are.  Lol, matter of fact they'd probably be a lot better than most guys at it . . I guess it's just something a lot of women aren't interested in?

Anne Marie owns/operates her shop in Edmond, OK.  Pat almost nothing to do with the shop, he has irons in other fires.  Anne Marie knows her stuff.  She has won so much stuff bowling it's ridiculous.

Carol Norman has her pro shop in Houston, TX at Del Mar Lanes.  Donna Conners helps at the shop.  Carol really knows her stuff too, if you have bowled USBC Nationals in recent years, you might have met Carol working at the Storm booth.  Donna is from Houston area, excellent bowler, Houston HOF, excellent coach.

Had the pleasure of crossing pairs with Tennelle Milligan in a regional a year or so back, in practice her finger insert flew out, and as she brought the ball back to look at it, my friend said "time to head to the pro shop with that one."  She smiled and said "I am the pro shop."  Great bowler and seems to know her way around a shop also.

Aleta Sill, Lisa Wagner, Michelle Mullen all work in the pro shop at Country Lanes in Farmington, MI.  Cheryl Daniels runs things at the pro shop inside of Novi Bowl or whatever it's called, in...you guessed it..Novi, MI.

I know Michelle and Aleta do a lot of coaching, but I'm not sure who does the drilling?

I believe the shop in AMF Thruway in Buffalo, NY is run by a woman. When I was there from JOG, it looked to be a well maintained shop, knowledgeable people, great stock.
