The Great Debate... Bowling Videos...

After watching Brunswick's C-System video and reading the replies, I was wondering what the general consensus on bowling videos and/or why bowlers do or do not like them.

Personally, I learned how to bowl by watching videos.  Early in my Navy career I happened across an Earl Anthony bowling instructional video and I've been hooked ever since.  Once I realized there was bowling on TV, I would tape the matches and watch them in slow motion to figure out how the pros did it.  

Today, I love watching bowling videos.  Not only to see ball reactions but to watch and learn from those who have similar stats as me.  I've corrected numerous flaws in my game by simply watching someone who does it right, (Billy O, Buddies Pro Shop and Video Ball Reviews)., or those who seem to do it better than me.

i've given up on brunswicks equip but did watch that vid...

Wish all the ball companies would do that.. the man, woman, and robot to demo the ball.  Then to have the robot throw it at diff. angles.. Shows what the ball will do (other that these gutter to gutter vids.)

I especially liked the fact that Billy O threw both pin up and pin down on ALL of the PBA patterns.

I like watching the videos.  It gives me a general idea of what the ball will do.  Billy O also has a pretty sweet style.

yea because ONE ball didnt work with you you completely give up on a company

IMO bowling videos just shows what the ball looks like rolling down the lane.I agree that they can show you a very general reaction but the only way to know for sure if the ball will work well for you is to punch one up and use it.

more like 3 balls and no customer service help( or should say crappy service)
the BVP Golith and the TFD just to name the last 2 was a waste of money.

And to buy the replacement "BRUNSWICK" slides for the swirl shoes... I could buy a whole new pare of shoes.. wont pay for that logo again.

you want more....

I've been bowling for close to 20 years.  There have been several balls from Brunswick, Storm, Lane1, AMF, RotoGrip that simply did not work for me.  

I recently gave my Gemstone and Dynamo X away because they did not match up to my game.  I'd never discount Lane1 as a whole because I still have the Chainsaw which works on certain conditions for me.

Never had a customer service issue that my pro shop guy did not or could not take care of quickly.

That's the point. Any beyond just showing a hooking ball, a "good" ball video should IMHO provide some info about the lane (surface, pattern/length/volume), the player (basic stats like speed, RPM, PAP) and the ball itself (gross/net weight, layout). That's already a lot of info, and even then you just see how this specific ball performs for this specific player.

Anyway, there's still hope that good videos come along from time to time. The C 2.5 video is one of these (beyond any manufacturer bias), and some nice videos are those at ABS Bowling in Japan, which are very thorough and simply professional.

I do like what Buddies Pro Shop recently did with the Siege, Python and Wild Thing videos with J. Petraglia Jr. giving his stats (rev rate), slow motion, different angles, ball layout, etc.

Buddies is another good video (demo) maker, BUT  They too adrvertise the "hook the whole lane" type of throw.

Personally i think the balls should be demon-video of several diff. lines.  
--->down -n- in (5-7 boards)
--->12-3,  12-5
--->ect,ect

the main think is also showing the speed...  The speed is a big part some balls dont react well over certain speeds.

Most recreational/league bowlers only bowl on THS.  Which is probably why the majority of videos are shot on THS.

Brunswick upped the ante with using 2 balls with 2 different drillings on all of the PBA patterns.
