Finally got the Genesis Pure Pad...
« on: March 21, 2016, 08:52:34 PM »
and that pad works great! Bought it over the weekend while bowling state tournament and was very impressed on how well it kept the ball tacky and removing the oil. You can still spin the ball on it like you would with a towel but not as easily. I'm really impressed with it after 6 games of using the pad. But has anyone tried to use any of the leather shammys to to actually clean the balls with a cleaner? Wasn't sure if you can do that with them or not.

Yes the leather shammys are great and do a good job!

But You don't use cleaners with the leather shammy's! The chemicals can damage the fibers and also remove the natural oils that are in the leather.

Spinning the ball on a towel is like a gunfighter twirling a gun on his finger. It's showy, but not a effective way to use it.

For the most effective cleaning you should wipe the ball not spin it.

Also Leather towel/pads need to be clean to be effective and will make the pad last longer. Leather shammy pads are made of leather. Treat it more like a car chamois and don't machine wash or tumble dry it.

Also I suggest not using dish soap, they can contain degreasers that can strip away the natural oils in the leather. use a natural soap like a bar of pure soap that you would wash your hands with or a good car wash shampoo.

Remember the Shammy Pad is made of leather

How to Clean and Care for your Genesis Pure Pad.

If you begin to notice your Pure Padâ„¢ is not as effective as it once was, then it's time for a cleaning. Luckily, this is an easy task. Simply wash using some mild soap in warm to hot water, then gently agitate the surface with a brush. (Tip: Using water as hot as you can comfortably and safely handle helps to release extreme amounts of oil).

Once done, rinse your pad thoroughly under warm water, wring out, then lay flat to dry. Once dry, you can use a bristle brush to bring the knap back to an "as new" state, if needed.

Been using the pure Pad all season.  As somebody who uses urethane a lot it's almost a must have.  Never gotten as consistent of a reaction as I do now.

Yes, with my urethane, this pad is way better than the micro towel. Also, it's best to wipe the ball with the pad to be more effective. Even when using a towel, the ball spinning over the pad or towel reminds me of "Earl Rapenport" a bowler with a chain link attacked to his wallet and to the belt loop. He has towel in his back pocket and keys hanging on his side. He spins the ball like he's rolling pizza dough. The guy is for real.... He had an old Brunswick ball with a crown... Guy was actually pretty good lefty..
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

It does seem to be more effective than a microfiber towel. Each time I wiped it with the pad, I would feel it to see how tacky it was each time I used it. As far as spinning the ball on it, I just spinned it a little just a few times to see how easy/difficult it was to do that but the majority of the time I just wiped it slowly. But overall, I'm impressed with it and everyone who's told me about it was right.

The leather pads like Genesis and Ebonite's are the only way to get the majority of oil off a urethane ball.
