I was gone for about the same time as you before I returned to the game 12 years ago or so. I started bowling non sanctioned leagues for two summers before bowling a full time league. By that time, I had made friends with a local shop owner who coached. He was old school, and what He was teaching I was familiar with - old school, don't drop your shoulder type.
Then after making friends with local regional guys and with the owner of the house I bowled at, only then I realized that I was behind the times. But, I slowly worked my way (still working on it) to the "modern" game of bowling by seeking other coaches over the years.
