Finally saw some heavy oil.......
« on: August 26, 2003, 02:53:18 PM »
Yesterday I finally saw what a team mate termed as "heavy oil". We went to practice on the wood lanes that we will be bowling winter league on, and we could see each and every skid mark track from the balls we rolled. Balls came back with gobs of very thick and tacky kind of oil, and neither of my balls would hook to save my life. I guess I dont have much hand after all. I tried rolling everywhere from the 1st arrow to the 3rd, and most movement I could get was maybe 5 boards. My partner, throwing an old Storm something or other could still get his to hook but he was working at it, and he has a ton of hand behind his ball. I ended up throwing over the third arrow with just enough left to get into the pocket, and still left alot of 7 pins. Last night I took some 320 grit wet/dry paper to the Icon (all I had on hand), and hope that helps with these conditions, cause I never expected to see that ball go straight like it did.

First time throwing a hook...this is truly a test of conviction.

Just a wild guess but you're probably bowling on Guardian surface.  That's what's causing the skid marks you're seeing.  Sounds like they may be using Defense oil.  Our house tried it, didn't like it, was too hard to get it up when they stripped the lanes.

Heavy oil and you had five boards of movement!

You do have hand!

When they get me down to 1 to 2 boards of backend movement that'sheavy oil unstripped.  When they get me down to 1 to 2 boards of backend and my righty opponent has 12 and I have more hand that's unfair!

REgards,

PS I usually find there is a way to strike with about 3 boards of backend with a 15!
