Finding a groove
« on: October 16, 2008, 12:49:58 AM »
We're into the season 7 weeks now.  After 4 weeks I was averaging a paltry 197 despite starting the season with a first-week 643.  My next 3 weeks were all sub-par (567, 559, 597).

Then in week 5, something happened.  I found a groove, started making better adjustments, and my scores jumped.  Since week 4, I am averaging just shy of 241 with a pair of 700's (743, 737) and my lowest game was a very corner-pin-heavy 205 in game 2 week 6.

It's like the ball has found a track in the lane that it can't roll out of.

Anyone else finding a groove lately?

Yes, although my groove has been for the last 3 weeks, and I didn't have a low point before it

Seems like no matter what I do, I can't miss. Even when everyone else has 2 boards of area, I'm generating 5 or 6 and getting away with everything. Great breaks when I don't throw a good shot, but I'm making GREAT shots for the most part all of a sudden as well.

It's a combination of everything, I suppose: ball, oil pattern, execution, luck.

Actually, I've found that my Fear handles the oil volume better.  The Panic was just a bit over-under and left some really "blah" spare attempts.  With the higher pin, I expected the Fear to fall a little short on the back end, but has just the right amount of angle - I throw more strikes now where the ball hits the 1-2-5-8-9 pins: dead flush.  After about 15 frames, I have to start tracking left to keep the corners falling - something I learned in that 205 game I mentioned in the OP.

That is fascinating!

I've had some luck with a ball similar to the Wild(the lower flare version of the Fear).  The Blue Violet Tornado from Ebonite.  That thing varied tremendously on it's backend depending on the backends available.

Some days it hooked more than my Demolition zone....other days less than my spare ball.

When right....hmmmmm phenomenal(I've had some big sets with it)!.  The Fear is a ball I never saw EVER on the lanes!

REgards,
