Finding PAP

ok...im an experienced bowler, but theres still a few things that i cant grasp.

where is the pap? and how do you find yours? i saw a friend use tape on the ball once...but i dont know how he figured out where to put it....

when drilliing a ball, what is 4*4 or 4.5*3, etc. hopefuly you know what im talkin about here. haha


VAL? i know this is a stupid one..but just making sure.

ill post some other stuff i dont know later...this is all i can think of now

PAP = positive axis point (there is a NAP also).  It's the point that remains "stationary" as the ball rolls.  You can find it by trial and error (put tape on the ball until it doesn't appear to move as the ball rolls, or you can measure it by using a non-flaring ball on an oily lane.  Note the first oil ring, then find the point of the center of the circle described by that ring.

Drillings:  4 x 5, etc describes (first) the distance from the Pin to your PAP, then the distance from the CG (center of gravity) to the PAP.
