I can't believe that none of you jerks ever told me...

that a ball without fingergrips feels so darn good!

I drilled up an old Raging Red Fuze that I just filled and resurfaced.  Because it looked like it had a case of the measles, and because I'm running a little low on slugs and fingergrips, I decided to just forego both.

Besides the expected gain of less effect on the static weights, and the added benefit of more coverstock between the fingers, I really, really like the feel.

I'll throw it tonight and if it works as well as I hope I may have a marathon filling and drilling session coming up on a whole buttload of fingerholes.  I need to expand my span slightly anyway...

one thing i also like is how close together my fingers are now. but i wanted to redrill some of my stuff with a higher pin and i couldnt due to the finger holes taking out less weight.

I didn't even think of drilling the finger holes closer together.  What's a comfortable distance apart?  How close to each other can they be before warranty issues arise?

Typically you use the same bridge width as drilling for grips, 1/4 - 5/16" is normal.  The grips, however are about 1/4" thick, so they add 1/2" or so to the distance the fingers are apart.  --  JohnP

Anybody try the Vise 7/8" lady ovals?  They have a much smaller lip so you can feel more of the ball.  I use the biggest size 6.5 (49/64) and a 6 (3/4) they are pretty stiff and give me the illusion of no grips.

Tried no inserts but I had to oval them too much to get a good feel and I couldn't accurately repeat the oval even with milling.  The oval inserts fit my hand much better and they all feel exact.
