Finger grips or GONE
« on: February 28, 2005, 02:49:45 AM »
I have been bowling for 20+ years and i have always used fingers inserts .
About 2-3 years ago i started tearing my fingers open in the first crease.

I just dealt with it buying tons of skin patch and super glue, This past week at Nationals was the straw that broke the camels back.

We started out doubles and in the 5th frame both fingers split and were squirting blood.

When i got home i checked my shop and found my old V2 part. used some quick plug and redrilled it without inserts.

WOW what a difference, just earlier that day my fingers were bleeding and that same night without inserts in the ball my fingers didn't split anymore ,nore did they even bleed. I only felt a little more burn on hte tips of my fingers and get just as much on the ball as i did with inserts. but so far no more splitting of fingers and no more glue/skin patch..

I recommend this to anyone that has this problem. If you are using inserts and taring up your fingers try it without grips , If it doesn't help just have the plugg drilled out and replace your inserts.

NO MORE GRIPS FOR ME.

BTW you can ask TheHose about my fingers that morning of doubles .

Just out of curiosity, what brand and type of inserts were you using?

Personally, i think it would benefit everyone that when they first start out, the driller puts no grips in.  Let them try it a while, then put the grips in.  That way, they aren't stuck suffering like i had to until a few months ago.

I had the same problem, but it was mainly with my  middle finger tearing.  Anyway, now that I have switched to no-grips, I have found I'm more accurate since I get out of the ball cleaner.  Any my fingers don't get torn up anymore.  I will admit, it took me a couple of months to get completely used to no grips, but I'm glad I did it!

I agree it may take alittle more time to get completly comfortable with the no grip balls. But i do think i was more accurate with out them . You do seem to come out the ball alot cleaner and you don't loose hand.

I have tried turbo 2n1, turbo quads, but as of late the only ones i like was Vise. I tried the power lift side and the oval side. Didn't really matter which i used i still tore my fingers.

I am glad i finally got up enough nerve to try without grips.

I don't think i will ever go back.

I Have about 8 games one a ball with no grips. All my balls are 14 pounds and tomorrow I'm going to go drill all 15'sto set up my new 15 pound arsenal.

I will be drilling a vertigo, super charge that ill get from a buddy, a sling blade, and maybe the original hot rod and the team storm spare ball. So not only am i moving up to 15 but i am giving up grips i think, i get a lot more cleaner release, i hope it is the right decision.

If u have time and see this, pm me and say "Grips" or "no grips", i want to count how many people have which.
