So confused...
« on: April 04, 2004, 09:46:20 AM »
Alright, I have a particle ball with 1000-grit Matte finish. The ball does not hook at all on heavily oiled lanes, however, Storm insists that it is a ball for heavy oil. Should I motify the surface? What should I do? I am willing to sand, but I don't want to mess it up. Can someone give me some advice?

I think you might have to provide some more info to get this answered.  Can you get your other balls to hook?  Are you sure it is heavy oil - could you provide the units of oil and the pattern?  How are you playing the lane pattern and what is your style of play and ball speed?  Which ball is it and how is it drilled?  Was it drilled NIB or was it a used ball?   Hopefully after providing more info you will get some better advise.

If you're talking about the Reloaded, sounds like you are, it's more of a mediuem to medium-heavy ball.  Although when there's alot of oil out I have had pretty good results playing a little straighter with it and didn't lose any carry.  Sanding it is also an option I suppose.

The ball that I'm having trouble with on heavy oil is my Reloaded. That is after I have it polished. I have a Fear Factor (particle, 800-grit Matte) that was sanded 600-grit. That ball hooks more on heavy oil, but I throw it slower because the thumbhole is too big. That has to be fixed. I am positive that the lanes are heavily oiled. They are swamped. I have no idea about the pattern. I throw the ball medium to high speed. The pin is directly under the ring finger hole. The ball was brand new when I had it drilled.

You've answered your own question.  POLISHED on the Reloaded is the problem.

In addition the BALL is NOT a Heavy oil monster.  It is for medium heavy.

We have a guy who uses one and it is sanded to about 600 and it works pretty well on medium heavier.

You have a lot of seperation between your Fear and your Reloaded.  I'd go back to 1000 dull on the Reloaded.
