Finger pain.
« on: March 25, 2009, 10:02:55 AM »
Well, lately I've been noticing a pain in my middle finger while I'm bowling..

It get's really irritating and I'm wondering what could be the cause and how could it be fixed?

There's nothing 'fancy' about my span

Can't provide the EXACT numbers, but it's not stretched or short, just good nuff' to just stick a pen between my palm and the surface of the ball..

Now I don't think there's a grip change I could do to fix this?
I wouldn't think raising my middle finger would relieve any pain, even though looking at my hand it is a tad longer than my ring?...

I'm not really sure..

Also was thinking about offsetting my thumb just a little to see if that would help get out better?

I'm just a little confused as what to do here but this pain drives me nuts..

Is this pain around only while bowling? Is it in the knuckles? I would say you should maybe look at your pitches either way. Also I personally do not see a reason to not have your thumb off set to the middle finger side. It on that side of you hand...

Only when bowling does it occur, yes.

But the pain will obviously still be there for awhile even when I'm done, takes a few hour to fade away..

but maybe a pitch change would be the key?

I have seen a lot of people have pain from bad pitches.

Where in you finger does it hurt?

it's right at the first joint/knuckle (whatever you wanna call it) of my finger.

I've been having the same issue.  I think I actually sprained my middle finger while bowling a couple weeks ago.

In the last year I dropped to 14# and went to no grips.  I've also tried to change my pitches to get a little more axis title.

The suggested changes that I've made so far have been going with a vacu grip for my middle finger and backing off on the "extreme" pitches I was using in an effort to get more axis tilt.

Right now I'm running with some cut down athletic tape between the first and last joint of my middle finger.  So far, so good...

hmm...i think the pitches are what I need to get checked out..

I use both grips and NO grips..and I have Vacu's in my spare ball..but it doesn't matter (for me at least what ball I use, they all have the same effect on my fingers...but the tape idea and the pitches might help out..because the grips or no grips really doesn't effect how I roll my ball that I can notice? they're all same span..my spare is a tad longer and my raid I think is shorter but all others are the same..

If your first finger joint is stiff you should have reverse pitch on the hole.  Find a good fitter to analyze your hand.  --  JohnP
