Finger Pain
« on: June 23, 2010, 05:49:05 AM »
Has anyone experienced pain in only one of their fingers. I'm only 22 and I highly doubt it is arthritis. the top knuckle on my ring finger has been bothering me for quite some time now and I went to a doctor and said they couldnt figure it out. Any suggestions?

check the span/pitches,it's the most likely source of the pain, which if not taken care of will lead to arthritis.

I recently shortened my span by 3/8, but there is still some pain. maybe i just have to stay at this new span for it to start feeling better

Better find out what it is before you look for a cure.

My bet is tendonitis.

Did this pain start with a certain ball ?  I would go to a reputable pro shop and have all you equipment checked to insure they have the same span and pitches.  It sounds like you are getting too much strain on your ring finger when you release the ball.  Like already said, it could the ring finger span and/or pitch is wrong or the pitch on your middle finger is away too much putting too much strain on you ring finger.

Either way, you can not be sure until the pain goes away.  Soak it in ice and wait a week or so before you bowl again.  Fortunately, its summer and you will have time to heal before the fall season starts.  BUT, have your equipment and your span checked out before you throw another ball.

I noticed it once I got my Jigsaw punched up. Went to a new driller cause he was a guy I knew when I was younger and not into bowling. The guy is an engineer, so I figured he could at least do it right.

Will do on the icing, but the only problem is I bowl in a PBAX league on Tuesdays and USBC Nationals Shot in Thursdays.

Take the Jigsaw and one of your older balls to either the new or old driller and have them check the spans and pitches while you watch.  I'm guessing the joint that's giving you the pain is stiff and the new driller either increased the span and/or the forward pitch in that finger.  When you grip the ball does the nail on that finger press into the back of the hole?  If so, that's a sure sign there's a problem.  --  JohnP

I just dropped from that longer span to the new span, but I was wondering if that could be the issue, which it most likely it due to the stretch

I felt the exact same way, but now with the shorter span I feel like I have more control over the ball and im not grabbing it as much
