Buzzsaw XXXL - experiences?

Just drilled my XXXL yesterday. Lanes were too oily in the heads to really test it for the dryer conditions I am hoping it will tame. For a plastic ball it did hook a few boards though. The backends were extremely dry but the oil pattern was fairly heavy and seemed quite long. Even my new Groove blue sanded wasnt moving enough on the dry.

Question: Has anyone adjusted the cover on the XXXL? Like sanding it to 600, 800, or 1000 for a little more grip? How much will sanding this ball affect it's reaction? (Comes highly polished in box condition)

I thought I had enough balls to cover most conditions but this one (extreme wet/dry) kinda made me wonder if I have a hole in it now. The next step up from the 2 above mentioned is my Monster Frenzy but it was really too much when it found any dry boards. Didnt have my Stinger low flare with me so maybe that one would have been the ball to use, although it has a very strong reaction on dry backends as well.

I have two XXXLs.  One drilled for 10 pins, still too much ball and one drilled for a strike bll on short oil with strong backends.  Of course there is not flip, but the ball with the strong core does move several boards and hits very hard.  Speed is important though because if I threw it too fast, I pinged a lot of 10 pins.  But I have not experimented with sanding the surface.

I have. I put mine at 800 sanded to stop the skiddishness of the polished cover with my speed, it started into its roll about 3 feet past the arrows and never stopped. I did not want that so I took it to 1000 light buff. and like it a lot better. There is still enough surface there to grab the dry and I get enough length to pick my 10's up with from the middle of the lane. It does skid now some but if I keep my hand behind the ball I am 99% sure I am going to pick the 10 up unless the lanes are REALLY dry.
I have only come across one condition that I could swing the XXXL on and there was not enough oil on those heads for any kind of ball. I was actually picking up dust or the protectant that they put on freshly resurfaced wood lanes on all my balls.

Nic,
 Last 3 tourneys I went to(including Hoinke)I took an arsonal and threw ThunderFlash,Thunderflash and White Dot.The last was a killer.The White Dot got to the hole no prob but left as many 10s as strikes.My thoughts were a plastic with a core would have carried better.Do you agree?If so,which drill would you recommend.I would prefer the spare drill as it would do double work but is the core strong enough to carry?My style is flexible,but prefer to bowl up the back off the twig and go for accuracy over power under those conditions.Any thoughts appreciated.

I am not Nic, not as rich or popular on here. but I will TESTIFY that the core is PLENTY strong. I throw messengers most days when I have to throw this to get to the hole. I play it straight up the boards, with plenty plenty of revs. I have not had to swing it.

I drilled my XXXL with a 4x4 layout since I figured...hey...it's plastic. If I want any hit I am gonna have to drill some "hook" into it.

OOPS !!!!!!

This ball does hit, does carry and yes...does hook when the conditions are right. We had a no tap tourney at the end of our reg leagues so I figured I'd use it instead to eliminate the unpredictability. And I figured since it was no tap I could deal with leaving 10 pins etc.

Well to make a long story short, I didn;t leave any 10's, no 7's....just a bunch of splits!!! The ball finished that hard.

Go figure.....I use mine with the box finish worn. I do not keep it gloss polished since (as it has been said) it gets skittish when it hits any oil in that state.

Great ball.....I wonder if the rumor of a urethane Saw is true????

Appreciate any and all replies,only singled out Nic cause he has two.You guys took care of the hit part,now looking for the proper drill suggestions.Hate to spend that kinda jack on plastic but if they're gonna put down Gobi I'll play Gobi.Just HATE being a donater.The Flash is killer on the swing/rev shot but gotta have a little oil to stay in play.
 The Hoinke reoils for team but singles and doubles is 'what you see is what you get'.We caught second shift both times. Strongest ball out there was a Hot Rod drilled label and revved over the caps.In league I see LONG fresh oil and it will be a spare ball most of the time.
