Helicopter Style?
« on: November 15, 2011, 10:50:50 AM »
What ever happened to it? I remember it being talked about frequently awhile back, then it just kind of disappeared. Is it still used prominently in Asia? And why did it never really make the jump here?

Moosin' ain't easy!

This style is mostly used by Chinese Taipei bowlers. It has the advantage that lanes conditions are not a factor. They are at a  disadvantage when lane conditions are high scoring.  The Korean women DID NOT use the "helicopter" style to beat the US Team and take the gold medal in the 2009 World Championships.

Proshop had it right with the originators of the style and telling that the Korean women threw the ball normally. The really good spinners will average 215 on EVERYTHING, because lane condition doesn't matter. Get them on something a bit easier for the normal rolling bowlers, they don't stand a chance. I've always wondered if maybe the best spinner in the world should bowl the Pete or the US Open lol.
