10 Pins?
« on: October 05, 2005, 01:52:06 PM »
I'm having trouble with 10 pins. I know corner pins take a slightly different attack than other spares. What is your tactic and how do you line up?

I line up far left, walk straight, throw at the 9 pin straight across. I have a right eye thing, so if or when I miss , it's to the right, that's the reason I aim for the 9.

Might work for you, might not.

I stand on the far left dot with the side of my shoe, then i line up against the middle arrow and throws over it.

I stand left (about 25), flatten the wrist out and come straight up the back targeting around 3rd arrow.  Oh yeah, I like to use plastic because even though I try to come straight up the back, I usually get a little side motion as I can't seem to totally kill it.  Also, plastic helps me relax and not feel like I need to "force" it over there - it will slide enough on it's own making my job easier.  I have also stood further left and targeted the middle arrow, but the heavier oil volume there gives me fits sometimes (hit the ditch), sometimes it works well if the 3rd arrow is dry from people shooting there.  It all depends on what you're comfortable with.

The biggest thing, in my mind, is to be confident you can hit it and don't think about missing it.  Get up there and say to the 10 pin "I'm knocking your a55 down beeyotch!" then do it.

Are you using a plastic "Spare" ball, or trying to get the right turn off the gutter to get your 10 pins..  I highly encourage you to get a spare ball and as posted earlier.  Standing far left, aiming across the middle arrow, you should hit it 95 percent of the time!!

When I throw at a 10 pin, I use my Plastic ball.  I get up there, and stand 2 boards left of the last dot (or 3 boards right of the last dot, if your center has the extra dots) and look at the ten pin.  Visualizing, I draw a line from the ten pin to the fourth arrow. As soon as I get to my mark with my eyes, I go.  Don't overkill on the speed, just a nice, smooth release at the pin should work.

A plastic spare ball will run you about 50$ drilled out the door. Any of the previously mentioned alignment methods should work. Find the one that works for you with some practicing.
Another trick that I use to kill any possible hook---even with plastic if you have dry backends----is to remove your middle finger from the ball. Using the thumb and the ring finger only allows the ball to turn over once or twice for me and hits the ten pin pretty much all the time.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress...........

if you've ever watched a pba telecast you'll notice that most players will stand as far left as possible to convert the 10 pin and they'll usually target between the 4th and 5th arrows. a plastic ball takes out the lane condition and you can throw it straight at the 10 pin.
