Bad Sportsmanship or just getting an edge?
« on: May 03, 2011, 05:52:34 AM »
May be bad sportsmanship is not the right word but, in our league during position round the 1st place team was bowling the second place team with a 5 pt lead. Team 1 enjoys a few drinks during the games. Team 2 bought Red Bull vodka shots for Team 1 while drinking shots of Red Bull only . Leading team 1 to assume shots were the same. Needless to say Team 2 wins the league.........Smart or unfair??

I would say that only because the team that bought the shots lied to the other team and deceived them by making them think everyone between the two teams were drinking identical drinks, that part is un-sportsman like conduct.

I would compare this to  a team buying a round of cokes for everyone but putting ex lax in the opposing teams. Im sure everyone would agree that is un-sportsman like. Its just alcohol has a different side effect.

If you drink it voluntarily and assume everyone elses is doing it you get what you get. If you really take it serious as a sport then don't drink. You don't see anyone in other "sports" taking shots before the game do you?

Be good, or be good at it.

…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

well  I couldn't afford it 1st place on my league get about $25 and the USBC magnet won

It had to take more then 1 round of drinks so not worth it but clever

you got to know your limits

Rex-

Sounds like you bowl at Cherry Bowl in Rockford in a 'classic' league.  Which shows how 'classic' it really is.  I hear its more of a fun league than the typical 'classic' league.  I even heard there was a struggle to even get the weekly fees from $12 to $15 for this past season and for this upcoming season, they kept it the same.

All I can say is Team 2 would have been in trouble if they would have bowled against some of the teams I bowled on in the past.....we couldn't bowl worth a damn unless we did drink.

Anyways, while it was sneaky......Team 1 should've known that something was up.
