So today the bowling coach for Ferris State, was giving free lessons, all you had to do was pay for the games you bowled. I showed up at about noon and he was already giving tips.
So he had me throw a few balls to get a idea of how i throw the ball and then asked me what I wanted to work on... I said my timing at the line, I know i am late and want to know how to fix it.. After about two games of him having me do what he was saying, I was already getting better timing at the line... While talking to the other people there, I said probably the toughest thing was to unlearn the 10+ yrs of bad habits i had been doing.
It actually wasnt that tough to unlearn it, but to just get my "foot work" working properly...
He also had me in my stance, stand up taller in my approach and take full steps, and losen up my arm from start of my approach to the finish and to not "hit" the ball till the end of my swing, cuz he noticed, i would cup my wrist to try to add revs to the ball...
I will say, once i got everything down, I couldnt believe how effortlessly I was able to bowl, and still keep my revs up. I also increased my speed by about almost a 1/2 mph, too. the Coach did say once, I am able to get good timing at the line, I'll increase my speed by about 1 mph..
I'll be honest and say, the 11$ i spent for the 4 or 5 games i bowled, and his time he spent working with me, was UNREAL and worth the weight in gold. he did tell me he does this every sunday, and if i wanted, he can do some 1 on 1, early friday mornings.
And it's not that I would shy away from tips and helpful hints from guys who knew thier stuff, but it seemed like 90% of the time all they would talk about is getting me to lower my backswing...
this guy didnt care about how high my backswing was, just getting me to have good timing at the line...
