I joined as a semi-regular player and had an incredibly mediocre night -- BUT, I did witness my first 300 game!!  It was an incredible experience.  Anyway, I noticed my hands getting sticky and I'm not sure how to stop that.  It was like I had rosin on them, but I don't use it.  Would powder work??

No, it wouldn't, plus getting powder everywhere will possibly upset other bowlers in the league (and using powder on bowling shoes is against the rules, and I think it's Rule 12 in the book).

If your lanes have a pro shop, stop in there and find a dry grip bag, or a puff ball.  They are made of either terry cloth type material or something similar, and have a mix of baking soda and sometimes cat litter inside to keep your hands dry.  If there's no pro shop, you can find them at bowling websites all over the net.

I love my little grip bag -- it's got Monopoly print all over it.

Hope this helps!

I've ALWAYS had a problem with my hand getting sweaty and then sticking in my thumb... I've yet to totally solve it, but here are some tips:

- Don't get stuck on EZ-Slide or similar products. Once you use it on your thumb once, it'll just start to compound the problem once it builds up in your thumb hole and gets moist. You'll have to start using it before every single shot, and that's a pain.

- Grip bags are good to dry your hand, but don't pound the powder from them into your ball like some people do. It'll cause the same buildup problem as the EZ-Slide.

- Replace tape and clean your thumb hole out with rubbing alcohol every few sets.

Hope this helps.

Besides a rosin bag, used ONLY as needed, a good CLEAN cotton terry cloth or a microfiber towel will help a lot. Clean is important. Dirty towels are not good for you, your hands or your balls.

I keep a supply of alcohol wipes in my bowling bag for just such situations. If the center is unusually hot, humidity is high, or I just have sweaty-finger syndrome, the wipes really come in handy. If you belong to one of those warehouse clubs, the wipes are really cheap. Just check around the pharmacy area near the diabetic testing supplies. You can also use them to quickly deep-clean the finger/thumb holes of your bowling ball. Just wrap one around the end of a pen or a tape insert tool and it makes for quick work.

Deb - That's a great idea!!  I was going to get some hand sanitizer and clean my hands every few frames, but I wasn't even thinking about the stuff in the holes.  I'll give it a try.  I know that after I washed my hands, I'd start stringing some strikes, but then I'd start getting stuck again...
