First time in 25 years.
« on: November 24, 2008, 05:25:55 AM »
This will be the first time in 25 years that I will not bowl in a league and establish an average.  I haven't even paid for USBC membership.  I was suppose to sub on my former Monday league but I'm the 7th man so it doesn't look like I will ever be needed.
I'm kinda torn and pondering on what to do.  Shall I go to different bowling alleys and leagues that accept subs on any team and pay a sub fee?  Shall I find a fun and inexpensive league that still needs a bowler and join?  Money is a little bit of an issue.  I could cut out going out to dinner and other small things to give me that little bit of extra cash. Or shall I just say the heck with it and not bowl at all and not establish any average for this year?

I don't disagree with Classof53 but another thought would be .. there are some leagues out there that are NOT expensive .. perhaps looking in your area for one might be the way to go .. for one season!

Where I live there are plenty of leagues that don't have sub fees. I'd check around to find out which leagues don't and sub in those.

I bowl at my local Elks club in a small league.  We have our own lanes and bar in the basement.  Only costs 10 bucks a week plus brackets and pots if you choose.  Might want to look into local clubs like this.  Oh and we have no sub fee.

What is this sub fee? Do they actually charge the sub to bowl? I would think people would be happy just to not have to take a blind. Whenever I sub for a friend of mine, they always buy me some fries and a soda just for bowling.

Some leagues charge $5 or so sub fee that goes towards their prize money.
