Flare ring question?
« on: January 02, 2009, 01:05:11 AM »
I have had bowlers look at their flare rings to tell them where the ball is moving on lane?  Can anybody enlighten me to this knowledge?  Also most of my flare rings are usually pretty tightly together but  my bounty i just drilled has about 3 inches in between flare rings what is the significance of this?  Your input would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I don't think you can look at flare rings and find out where the ball is moving. You can look at your rings and have an approximate of where your pap is, but I think that's it.

tight rings equal less flare, wide rings equal more flare.now if you can change your release to change the track flare then you could change where the ball will start to hook.

A ball with more distance between the flare rings will ,probably, start hooking sooner than a ball where the flare rings are really tight.

I guess I have a question to build off theirs. I tend to change the roll of my balls many times. I have my WMB which I can just throw it out to the gutter and know itll grab and come back to the pocket and the flare rings are pretty spread out about an inch or so. I can take the same ball and play it straighter where I get just a solid strip of oil however it tends to clip the thumb slightly like this(not always but occasionally just  atouch) so my real question is Ive heard rolling over your thumb will cause a significant amount of hook lost if this is the same why when I throw it the same way(catch the hole once and not the next time) why do they both hook the same when Im playing straighter instead of really hookin it?

If your flare rings are more than 5/8" apart you should be seeing some crumby ball reaction (overflaring) or you're not measuring them correctly.
