Some balls have a flip block on the top and others on the bottom.
What effect does each one have on a ball's reaction?
Would a bowler at my level and bowling style (see profile) benefit more from one over the other? If so, why?
Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'll take a stab at this....other guru's should chime in....but...drier lanes would best suit a top block, oiler, bottom block. Lower will cause the ball to rev earlier (I believe) so read the lane better....top block will go a little further for when you need to clear the heads.....
Anyone else....is that about right ??

I would guess a top flip block would give it more length and more angular backend, and a bottom flip block would hook earlier and arc.
My theory, someone correct me if im wrong.

I can think of quite a few balls that have top flip blocks that are rated as medium/heavy oil balls.
Let's take this a step further. Wouldn't different drilling layouts change the position of the flip block? If so, what effect would that have on the overall picture?

Very true....but they probably have a low/lower rg core and/or more aggressive coverstock to begin with. I guess I was just looking at it as if you would want to take 1 ball (choose one) and substitute it's block from top to bottom or vise-versa, or add a block (if it didnt' have one) top or bottom, and that one ball would be changed per my description. Sorry, wasn't very clear there.
Then again, like I said, ....I may be wrong,...I am a lot !

I really appreciate the detailed explanation. Most of it makes sense to me. I may have to read it a few more times in order for it all to sink in.
Thank you for your help
