Pin Position On Bowling Balls
« on: September 24, 2008, 05:44:11 AM »
Does anybody have any information on pin position and what the affect they have the balls...

Example - If I wanted a ball to setup with extreme backend what kind of pin should I ask for?

If I wanted a ball to setup midlane what kind of pin should I ask for?

And

If I wanted a ball to go extremely long what king of pin should I ask for?

I am just finding it extra challenging ordering balls online because I dont know what to ask for..

It's not just the Pin,  you have to factor in the MB, and ball surface.

Talk to your ball driller.  Tell him what you think you want.

jls actually comes through with good advice? Wow.

And if he's a good ball driller, he'll take into consideration what you think you need and counter with his professional opinion on what he thinks you need.  Then the two of you can come to a consensus as to what will be the best ball reaction for what you need.  For example, why do you feel you need a ball to go "extremely long"?  If it goes too long, it's going to ignore the midlane and rely too heavily on friction to make its move, which is bad for consistency, especially in the presence of anything resembling carrydown.  Not to mention it's also going to be very condition-specific and won't be best for carry normally.
