fluffers
« on: September 13, 2004, 07:08:09 AM »
[rant]I am getting so sick of people making fun of me for using my phenom on our house condition.

For some reason this year, i have found that i am carrying a ton better with this ball, and am averaging in the 230's to start the year off. Not very good for my handicap, but i'm not good at bagging. The thing is, everyone keeps on asking what i'm doing different, then making fun of the fact that i am using my phenom on this house condition. What is the problem with these people? do they not understand the point of the game is to knock down pins, not to see how deep they can play.[rant off]

don't sweat it. I learned to fluff and I'm destroying racks.

I use an Animla OOB on a fesh shot and people are whinning about how there is no oil an dthey can keep there pearl reactives on the lane.

I don't bother to tell them that playing a weak release up the oil line with a particle drilled for midlane control will never jump off the wet/dry and not run like hell once out of the oil. control with a little swing room. sure I have to hit a five board area around 45 I just don't have the ability to swing the ball from deep and hit any board with an arrow on it.

I let them fling and cry about how much the ball moves. yada, yada. and just take there money.

some guys that can bowl may not get the concept of less is more. I use to have to worry about matching up a lot more. especially in the drilling dept. I use to like strong ball drilled weak and no ball was weak enough.

now I can take a fairly strong ball drill it to it's strength and crush the pocket all night. for example I use to have to take a strong ball like a unleashed and drill it to weaken the backend reaction to play the lanes at all. struggle to hit a 600. now I can take the same ball drill it with a med flip layout, and get mad when I don't hit 700.

Knowledge is key to bowling and matching form(rev, tilt, release, speed) with equipment( shell type, break point reaction and shape) to the lane. once these come to togther to aloow you to manage the lane friction you will score!

so it dosen't matter what ball it is. it's how you use it. On  THS, depending on sthe kills of the bolwers you can see anything to a 600 grit High load particle to a plastic ball shooting 600's. that is why a THS so easy.

Like I said, I more than happy to take money from the mentally weak. if they are frustrated with your equipment they are not managing there own game and will lose!

Hey Stanski,

I'm with you and Omega on this one.  Don't worry about what you're throwing so long as you're scoring with it.  In a short time if you continue to beat people with your Phenom, watch how many guys will show up with one and try to use it as well.  Omega "might" remember how I used to bowl (20 yrs ago) and now I'm nothing like it, I don't turn the ball a lick in comparison but I'm still scoring.  I would regretfully have to say it's the over abundance of testosterone in us males that don't give enough respect to the fluffer but keep kicking their butts and you'll soon see a difference in attitude.

Real simple comparison, Rudy Revs and Walter Ray....Rudy who has a ton of revs just doesn't make him the best on tour where as Walter has been dominating for what...the last 15+ yrs?  Keep knocking'em down and take that check, that's what counts in my book.

Ken,

you Mis-giuded b*stard! just kidding. I not talking about dumping the ball, but a soft release that that crisp and clean through the shot.

watch any of tenpinspro shots ( see track forum).

also, please put out any reasonable pattern for me. I still have a shot. I may have less area than some but as long as I match the balls breakpoint reaction to the lane condition I'm ok.

take pattern B, not a dump and run shot yet I avg just as good as I do on other shots.

since switching to a stroker type I have not shot on a reverse block yet so I can't say how I would fair but give me a few attempts and let me drill something if need be and I good to go.

I am by no means a dump and run guy, but I know how to bowl on a THS with a strong ball like the animal and score all night.

ahh! Rick, I do remember it was fun seeing the shiny spot on the top of your head.
I did notice your foot speed was a lot less. getting old?

I guess I would be another person to place in the category of a soft release person using strong equipment on a THS. I used the Animal tonight in my Monday night league for the first night of bowling and shot a 276 out of the box. Had to switch to different equipment when the head oil had gone (we had 5 lefties playing all over the place on that pair) but for the game and 4 frames I was able to use the Animal, I got a consistent reaction and great carry...

It's all about matching up your game to what the lanes are playing like, and if you can outscore the next guy, then all the better for it I say...

You can't keep swinging the entire lane with a bad back when you hit your 30's, things catch up to you, and that is just around the corner, get yourself a wrist brace as well !!

Omega - Well put.

Stanski - if you're outscoring all of the stand-left, crank it up, and fling it right people, why worry about what they say?

It reminds me of something from Dave Ramsey (the financial guru) who says something to the effect of "why take financial advice from broke people?"

then put that weak shot with help of a powerful ball on a true condition, and its washout city

Soft hand won ABC nationals this year with 858 and without a powerful ball.  (but yes, dump is not the same as soft hand)

Omega,

LMAO...I forgot you knew me when I had hair...LOL  Foot speed has become lessened because now it takes longer for a mental command to travel to the brain and then back to it's correct location..

how you throw the ball really doesn't matter. it doesn't matter if the ball covers 5 boards or 45 boards. can you make the 5 pin go left and take out the 8 and the 7 ? can you make the 6 pin take out the 10 pin ? if you can do this than this is REALLY what matters.

(without taking time to read all posts)
there is nothin wrong with being a fluffer or a cranker. people would consider me being a cranker.

I cross on average at least 30-35 boards. dont think i cant adjust and play other shots though. on the contrary i have bowled a league using only plastic which i played stright up pretty much, well i was still turning about 15 boards. i like the cranker shot better, but this is all besides the point.

the point is that i agree, the game is about knocking downs pins, whether you have a soft release or you rip the cover off the ball. way to go stanski if your averaging 230 fluffing. if i wasnt averaging 230 cranking which for now i am (234) i would be asking you for advice not making fun of you. obviously you are probably a pretty good bowler.
