Title: Follow through

I'm having a problem with my follow through. Whenever I throw the ball, instead of following straight through, my arm goes to the left side, across my body. I tried keeping my elbow in and not "force" the ball but it doesn't seem to be working. I'll be getting help with it soon but need some tips beforehand. Thanks.

You might be twisting your body when you throw the ball. Throw it asnd reach out like your shaking hands.

A simple bit of advice I was given was to stand with the ball before your approach.Roll your wrist to the right (righty) to the point where you feel the muscles in your forearm won't let it go any further. That keeps your hand under the ball, and the inside of your elbow pointing straight ahead. It will follow straight up instead of hinging across your body.

Simply setting up like that makes all the difference in the world for me.

I find I am doing when I am either turn my body or when taking the ball behind me. The idea of the ball behind me is it is a natural correction. If I bring the ball behind me, my ball swing should be causing me to dump it out right but since I pull my arm across at release it ends up staying on line. So I would say see if you are taking the ball behind you. If you are a simple pushoff change should fix it.

Sounds to me like like a twisted or bent upper body, so that you stay with the thumb too long in the ball and "follow" it with your body. This can have many reasons - the simplest is that you actually lack body tension, it could also be a hidden timing problem with fast feet which makes you compensate for balance with the upper body. Hard to tell. My advice would be to keep your shoulders square and upper body upright, "breast ahead and proud head", and maybe check you stance for sync with the pendulum.

Big Wes used to have a drastic across the body follow through.  This year it looked like he's worked on coming up straighter.  --  JohnP

In the modern game it is ideal to have your follow through come up in front of your face...
