(I had this in the wrong spot to begin with, so I moved it.)

First off, the guy bowling against me shot 300 the first game. I was pretty sure by the 7th that he would. I've rarely seen anyone so lined in as he was.

Secondly, what does a torn rotator cuff feel like? I don't think that's my problem but there's something out of whack with my shoulder. It bothered me last night and it's sore the morning after bowling. If I try and raise my arm overhead it hurts. Yeah, I'm going to try and see the doc soonest, but thought I'd ask here as well.

I can't answer the question on the cuff, but I am interested in the responses.  I have had a problem with my left shoulder and it is either a slow-to-heal muscle pull or it is frayed somewhat- the pain is lessened if I put pressure on top of the shoulder and try to make the same movement.  I can also feel what seems to be a slight pop at the socket that does not have a companion feel with the same movement of the right shoulder.

I did get a PM from Rev_O, who is having (I think) a rotator cuff problem.  From his description of what he's experiencing mine isn't a RC, unless it's a very small tear.  I'm thinking more along the lines of Bursitis or some such thing.

I had rotator cuff symptons last year in my non-bowling shoulder.  I had a lot of pain reaching up above my head and couldn't even hold a water glass above my head.  I also had a lot of pain just reaching across my body, ie, I couldn't touch my opposite shoulder with my hand.  Had a lot of trouble reaching to grab my wallet in my back pocket or just even putting on a coat or long sleeve shirt.

They wound up taking xrays, MRI, had several cortisone shots and a round of steriods.  Had all the symptons of partially torn rotator cuff but MRI did not show it.  Finally after 7 months, I had arthoscopic surgery.  Turns out I had something a lot of diabetics get called frozen shoulder syndrome.  It causes blood to gather in the tissue around the shoulder and this causes the tissue below the rotator cuff to swell and push up on the rotator cuff causing the rotator cuff type symptons.

What you might have are a spur or spurs in your shoulder. I had the same feeling 3 years ago. Could not lift my shoulder above my head. Putting a tee shirt on was painful. In x-rays in did not showed up and my doctor will shoot me with me a cortisone shot. Also painful. Three months later the same thing. I finally had a MRI done and the spurs showed up. The operation takes about 15 minutes and within 3 months you will be back in shape. I know the feeling and I recommend that it be done as soon as possible. Good Luck
