As a proprietor, I don't like money leagues, though I have never had any practical experience with them, money changes everything. Besides driving up the cost of the nightly fees, the competitive environment must also change with it, the fun of bowling could vanish as the stakes involved grows. The most expensive league we have pays 12.00 a nite and teams are only competing for a few hundred dollars at best for winning a league and individual awards are under the 100.00 mark for top award winners. If bowling isn't fun for the participant they won't be bowling for long and big money can take the fun out of it in a hurry.
I feel money leagues are better suited for bowlers on a very high level of performance, pros, semi pros, these leagues would more than likely be all scratch, and would be for those bowlers who thrive on a high level of competition.
My fear of handicap money leagues, are the unscrupulous bowler or bowlers who could load a team with true "sandbaggers", these cheaters can ruin a league in a hurry.
Another reason I don't care for money leagues is that the cost necessary to have a money league could actually force bowlers who bowl in multiple leagues to give up a league or 2 in order to bowl in a money league because of the higher cost.
Anyway this is just my take on money leagues, as I said I really have not had any experience with them, so feel free to tell me whether I am right or wrong in my opinions of them.
