Just curious if the scoring pace around the world is at the same level as last year or even higher at this juncture of the early fall/ winter league schedule. I bowl a league on Thursday nights, 5 man first shift where the scores seem quite high right from the start. While the new pins are breaking in, as long as you can stay ahead of transitions we've been seeing a lot of 250+ games so far.

I think 7 or 8 people are averaging 230 or better after 3 weeks. I'm also finding that my mid-range equipment (Psycho, Playmaker, Wrath High Flush) is plenty strong enough compared to pulling out the high performance balls.

What do you see out there so far in your bowling area?

We just started this week, so it's really too early to tell.  But if the first week was any indication, it's status quo out here.

my thursday mens league has been pretty high scoring. first couple of weeks it was rough for me because they broke down so fast. last couple of weeks hasnt been too bad, the humidity has been lower and i think that has helped our shot alot. i changed the surface on a couple of balls as well so that helped. our shot is pretty playable as long as you make the correct moves with transition. for me, i have a higher rev rate than most so im constantly trying to move deeper in search of more oil. mostly im using a buzzbomb/r from lane 1, and scaling down to an original eraser or tropical storm as needed. most other players are using virtual gravity's, a couple of breaks from global to name a few. pretty much if the bowler can match the ball to their rev rate and where they like to play the shot has held up good the last couple of weeks.

In general the scores are up and they should be.  Last year we ran Kegel's Main Street as the house pattern and this year we are running Easy Street.  We came to the realization that most of our bowlers want to score well, relax, have beer and a burger and go home happy.  On the other hand we also have a sport condition we put down for some leagues and bowlers practice.  Personally I think averaging over 230 is just plain crazy but if they do it and are happy on the easy condition so be it.  We have run into people that get a hold of a real condition and do not want any part of it after the league is over.  They just want the high scores and little challenge.  Personally I find it boring and kind of fake but I am 1 in the crowd.  What I want is not what the majority likes.

Our Thursday night league scores are lower after the first 3 weeks for most of teams.  The pattern seems to be a little tighter than any of the patterns they put out last year.  Nice to have a little challenge, putting a premium on making your spares.

Well we just got done with week 4 here and everything was going quite well, the pattern played tighter than any house shot I seen (being a high rev player I didn't mine at all) started using the Jigsaw cause I wanted to play left of the transition, worked well after 3 weeks but they dropped some volume off the outside making the back ends mover ALOT more, overall the scores are fairly consistent now just have to see if the shot will stay that way.

Not well overall.  The pattern is as long as it was last year.  The oil is heavier than it was last year.  However, it doesn't last nearly as long.

I'm also finding more success with my mid/low end equipment.  My high end just destroys the lane by the end of the first game.

The scores in our Friday Classic League are ridiculous to say the least. We have 80 bowlers this year (100 last year).  Last year we bowled on a condition that was Sport compliant.  The league averaged around 190 for the season.  High average was around 220.  We had 2 or 3 800's and 5-8 300's all season.  They were tough.  This year, the league captains voted on bowling on the house condition.  Well, so far after 3 weeks this year, we have 2 800's, 3 300's, 1 299 and 1 298.  The league average is around 215 so far.  A lot of people are upset, but this is what was voted on.  Only 31 more weeks. http://www.leaguesecretary.com/LeagueFilesStandings.aspx?LID=24591

Way early to tell.  First night is the night I well flat on my face and could only bowl 1 game (191)

Thursday I managed to bowl 3 games without killing myself on approach 224-159-234 (617).

Still scared to go up there and really get into a shot good.  Worry that I blow a knee or twist an ankle due to poor maintenance procedures.

Averaged 203 last year, basically expect something close to that this year as it does not appear much money was invested in the facility and I did not invest any (yet) in my equipment.

I may buy a new pair of shoes (just to shut the manager down on that situation) and a new ball if I feel I need one for the shot this year.

Smash, I agree with you...and I too want to score well.  After a hard days work the last thing I need is another tough challenge.  Most bowlers feel the same.  WE don't have the quality of bowlers to put up 230 averages...but overall the averages are inflated.

Down to 10 teams I have to try and keep the league happy.  As president I want put on the lanes a shot that 1st and foremost is legal...2nd is consistant (lane to lane, week to week...just 1 shot for the season please), 3rd a shot that is on the easy side (dry side of the equation).

I want no trouble with governing bodies in terms of honoring scores, but I dont want to lose bowlers by putting out something no one can hit.

Youth league on wooden lanes this morning, it was our first week. Half way through the second game lanes were drying up completely..

Bowled in a different house on a second league and the lanes were way different than the other center I'm used to. Anything right the 10 board would come back very weak and anything left of it would immediately take off on the backend. Shot 517 and was probably my worse start in like forever. Totally different from the 662 series I shot two nights before.

Patterns seem to be holding up better than last year. Last year, and this summer, was a challenge with the amount of breakdown we had. So far this fall, there's a little more volume out there (we're probably a true medium house now rather than medium-dry). Scores may be up a pin or two. I'm doing very well. My wife's scores are up. Seems like a lot of people are starting to get balls more suited to the condition. Not having a ball give-away league this summer helped in that regard (i.e., last year a lot of folks ended up with the same ball whether it was suited to the situation or not).
